The final section of the 'Sideways & Familiar' Sheffield poetry walk led by Andrew Hirst and Chris Jones and joined in Paradise Square by the musician Kerry McMullen. The walk, which started from the central train station, was designed to illuminate some of the iconic and historic sites of the city and explore the lesser known walkways that cut through the centre. The audience was guided to Paradise Square via a narrow, winding passage, to be met by the unexpected sight and sound of McMullen's music filling the otherwise deserted square. James Caruth's long poem, 'Dark Peak', was published by Longbarrow Press in 2008. This recording was made on location in South Yorkshire in August 2008.

Recorded in a sea cave at Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire, August 2010. 'There are larger numbers and a wider range of cave habitats at Flamborough than at any other chalk site in Britain, the largest of which are known to extend for more than 50m from their entrance on the coast' (Wikipedia). 'Chalk' will appear in Matthew Clegg's forthcoming collection, 'The Power-Line' (Longbarrow Press).

From the Longbarrow Press pamphlet and CD 'Distance a Sudden'. This version was performed at the Fat Cat, Sheffield, 24 January 2010 (as part of the 'Distance a Sudden' launch). Four machines (CD player, cassette player, two dictaphones) and one speaker (Mark Goodwin, whose contributions are infrequent and brief) make a 'tape fugue' of the poem 'Dark Bird With Corner' as it runs in and out of phase with itself. The distant voice and the distorted voice shift emphasis throughout. Tape op and mixing by Brian Lewis.

The Purging of Spence Broughton (live) (by Rob Hindle)

One-off collaboration between Matthew Clegg and Andrew Hirst performed live at The Fat Cat, Sheffield, August 2009 (as part of the 'Dreamers' series of readings, performances and presentations). The performance begins with Hirst reading a Clegg poem, 'His Heart' (from the 2008 sequence 'Rag & Bone Shop); continues with an arrangement of Robert Frost's 'Acquainted With The Night' and Jacques Prevert's 'Breakfast' in which the texts (and the speakers) gradually meet, interweave and separate; and concludes with Clegg reading the final poem in Hirst's 'Frome' sequence (from 'Frome XXIV', 2008).
