A rather special affair from one of the many friendly faces we met down in Norwich earlier this year. What a place. Honestly, a real eye-opener with loads of passionate music folk lurking. Ben aka Sseagulls is a proper head and all-round local legend there and someone who definitely knows how to play the records, as you'll hear from this mix. Sseagulls, from deepest Norfolk, floating in to provide a mix for the GGHQ! Head Keg filler and party supplier for the Cosmic Pint Glass, Sseagulls, has been organising the musical output for the record label for the past 12 years. This mix was originally assembled to put some of the Cosmic Pint Glass influences on paper. Containing Library Gems, Jazz Fusion, Deep and Balearic House, Minimal and Prog Rock, these tracks are from all ends of the human creation. But there is a common thread in them all, a shared brightness. All exuding some sort of granular sparkles, covered in cosmic sprinkles if you will.

Influences to highlight in this mix; Luke Sanger and Jeran Portis for their input from the start, Toby Tobias for his continuous stimulus, Lauer for his italo-infused house, Datassette for opening the doors to the library gems, Damon Havlin for the beautiful Pleasure Unit releases, Wax Stag, Dirty Soundsystem, Jon Jones, Christ Too Smooth, Tony G, Simple Symmetry and many others.

The wine pairing for this month is Nehrer's Burgenland Rot!

Burgenland Rot is a blend of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt Merlot and Syrah. Wonderful cherry aroma and fresh acidity reflecting the winery's terroir along with fine tannins! Perfect for the budding colors of autumn.

The grapes are harvested by hand and pressed. The wine is given 7 days of skin contact and matured in 2000l wooden barrels for at least 6 months before bottling. Unfined, unfiltered, vegan.

Jaakko Eino Kalevi returned at the end of last year with new album, Chaos Magic (the Greek concept of “kháos”) – a double album of elemental pop and baroque electronics. It was a wild, immersive experience written and recorded largely in his new home of Athens. Navigating a kaleidoscope of styles of cosmic jazz, neon synthpop, disco and space-rock journeys, it featured contributions from artists like Alma Jodorowsky, Jimi Tenor, Faux Real and Sigurlaug Gísladóttir.

I welcome you, dear listeners!

You are listening to the worldwide service of Radio Ukraine. This show explores the roots of Ukrainian radio, which ironically began not through waves but wires—more like a telephone system. People used small plastic speakers at home, nicknamed "chatterboxes," for background bla-bla during the day.  

Over time, this old-school radio became a rural staple, still found in some villages today. For my generation, its sound evokes carefree childhoods in a newly independent Ukraine, now carrying even deeper meaning. This show reimagines a space where that radio lives on, blending Ukrainian music from all eras with pieces from the radio archive.

Andrew Bez is a cross-genre selector from Kyiv with extensive creative experience as a war journalist, screenwriter, copywriter, director, and actor.  Since 2022, Andrew has been running a radio show titled “Worldwide Service of Radio Ukraine,” dedicated to the roots of Ukrainian radio. 

One day, Andrew constructed a simulation of a radio speaker in his kitchen, using an old laptop, cheap small speakers, and special equalisation to replicate the sound of old radios. This show reincarnates the old Ukrainian radio, which broadcasted across the country by wires. A small plastic radio device was usually hang up in every kitchen and broadcasted news, shows and music non-stop from 6:00 till midnight. That's why people called it "chatterbox".
