Classic Hits in A Reggae Groove by the Kingston Sound System is a project which re-imagines a range of massive international hits working with the original vocalists and the Kingston Sound System to recreate the songs in an authentic reggae style.
 
The album features the original vocals of the artists, with all-new recordings coming straight out of the vibrant musical metropolis of Kingston, Jamaica. The authentic reggae sound is captured by a band which includes musicians who have played with the likes of Ziggy Marley, Peter Tosh, Sly & Robbie, Wyclef Jean and other reggae legends.

This new imagining of ‘Heart of Glass’ is a fusion of pulsating reggae beats with Blondie’s classic vocals, creating a fresh and vibrant take on a song that defined a generation. The track combines the unmistakable vocals from the iconic Debbie Harry with a group of musicians from the vibrant musical metropolis of Kingston, Jamaica. Jamaican band Kingston Sound System then provide the instrumentation to recreate the songs in an authentic reggae style. 

The latest release is one of the most impactful tracks of the 1980s, Bronski Beat’s ‘Smalltown Boy’.

This new imagining of ‘Smalltown Boy’ combines the original vocals from Bronski Beat frontman Jimmy Somerville alongside authentic reggae instrumentation. The sense of longing on the original vocal is still present, this time dripping in dub and live horns. Kingston Sound System’s version places this iconic dancefloor track with a reggae groove, creating a new interpretation which sounds as perfectly paired as the original.

Smalltown Boy (feat. Bronski Beat)

Kingston Sound System have created this new-imagining of The B-52s classic track ‘Love Shack’ using the original vocal takes combined with a live Jamaican reggae band. The unmistakable vocals from Fred Schneider and Kate Pierson sound at home inside of a wall of skanking guitars and pulsating horns, creating a sun-drenched version of a track named by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest of all time.

Classic Hits In A Reggae Groove presents the latest release from their upcoming album, a new imagining of Tanita Tikaram’s iconic track ‘Twist In My Sobriety’. Kingston Sound System have taken a re-recorded vocal from Tikaram and created a soulful reggae version of the classic.

A collection of Jamaica’s finest musicians, Kingston Sound System have taken the synth-driven original, and given it a new sun-soaked interpretation. The synths are replaced by horns and keys combining, with Tikaram’s breathy vocals perfectly complimenting the laid-back reggae instrumentation. A modern brooding vocal take from Tikaram lends new life to the recording, working hand in hand with a slower reggae tempo to the original.

The exception was the UK itself where a problem with EMI's pressing plant meant that the single was not available following the band's appearance on Top of the Pops and it peaked just outside the Top 40. Sniff 'n' The Tears is led by singer/songwriter Paul Roberts, the band's sole constant member. Roberts, a noted painter, is also responsible for painting all of the band's album covers.
