This is a mix I dropped last month for @begrime on their @subfmradio show - a special mix up of some tunes from one of London's most interesting labels: @keysound-recordings! This is definitely not a definitive selection from this label, basically it's just a mix of what I own on vinyl, but I think it's enough to give you a sense of their output over time; as it's for Begrime, it is tended more to the grime side of things, but there's definitely also some other stuff happening in here. This was recorded in one take with no prep, so there are one or two slightly rough moments, but basically I think you should enjoy this ... lots of great music on here!

Rising record producer and audio-visual artist Chris Speed Visuals (CSV) has unleashed torrents of genre-bending releases via various outlets including the revered label Off Me Nut, and other emerging imprints Cherche Encore and SYNES.

Born in London, CSV began solely as a digital artist but his musical output gradually developed over the years. His sound comes from teens spent immersed in the sounds of dingy East London club nights.

Drawing on a myriad of influences including dubstep, drill, jungle and other extensions of the hardcore continuum, CSV also utilises boundary-pushing algorithmic composition in his songwriting.

His graphical aesthetic uses similar computational approaches to the music, consistent across artwork, music videos, virtual reality and live visuals. Equally comfortable at home creating installations for gallery spaces as he is mixing rhythms on the dancefloor, CSV has collaborated with a variety of organisations including FOLD, Corsica Studios and Arebyte Gallery...as well as performing in other spots across the UK.

We’ve been fans of wave and neo-grime scenes for some time now, so when CSV expressed interest in getting involved we were excited. Fast forward more months than would be ideal (thanks to Fergus’ shadmin) and we can finally present CSV’s mix! London-based Chris is one of the pioneers pushing the neo-grime and waves sounds, genres that take from UK sounds of the 2000s and 2010s, and give them a fresh coat, influenced in part by the modern sounds of trap and hip-hop coming out of the US. What’s more, CSV’s skills extend far beyond music, with the producer also gaining recognition for his visual art and lecturing at Point Blank music school!

This mix is packed full of his own productions, as well as dubs from other key players in the scene, whilst being interspersed with some seriously Murky UK bass flavas. Ft. music from the man himself, Kareful, gl00my, Nikki Nair, Dual Monitor, Outsidr + more!

If you love the feel of grime, dubstep and breaks but are looking for something fresh, then this mix is for you: full of classic squarewave stabs and sporadic drums, coupled with ethereal pads and fat reese basses - this mix definitely feels like music from the future!
