It's a pleasure to announce this week's mix series artists as our new Loose Lips resident - a very good friend of ours, Dan! Showcasing his versatility, this mix epitomises his style. Although keeping techno as the central focus, he jumps between everything from tribal rhythms to the naughtiest electro!!

Ever since starting Loose Lips, we've been desperate to have Dan involved and his move to London in July is the perfect opportunity. Playing records with such affection, he has really started to flourish in the last couple of years. He plays and produces the finest selection of House & Techno, often with an afro-beat influence throughout. In Devon, he grew up as a major part of Groundvibes Soundsystem and held Vivify and Lightworks residencies, regularly playing alongside the likes of Phil Weeks, Medlar, Fabio Monesi, Billy Nasty and Subb-an. We can't wait to have him gracing the majority of our parties from now onwards - keep your eye out!

Four long form dubbed out psychedelic percussive jams from the always excellent Al Wootton on Finland's legendary Sähkö Recordings. From the pulsing dancefloor rhythms of opener "Essene" to the minimalist sub bass echoes of closer "Armen" this is another tour de force from Mr Wootton that effortlessly joins the dots between dub, techno and industrial ambience.

Recorded live in Arizona, Jock Club's GhostlyCast mix, called Babylon, is said to reflect the rising DJ's current interests while also tying in a few of his favorite classics—the spirits of techno, acid, and house are woven through his hour-plus session. Jock Club might best be known for his work with psych-punk outfit Destruction Unit, but the producer's take on deep, moody dance music has been making waves in its own right. GhostlyCast #60 doesn't feature any of his music, however, instead focusing on a wide array of eras and artists. From Randomer and DJ Steaw to Paul Johnson and Kenny Dope, the selections outline a DJ with impeccable taste and a firm understanding of how to move a dancefloor.

“A recording from pe:rsona in France, one of the most memorable sets of the summer for me!! 

I felt a connection to this crowd in particular and that’s not something that happens often. A lot of this is down to the people behind this festival, the pe:rsona/Positive Education crew are very intentional with what they do, they champion and support a lot of artists who aren’t necessarily ‘big names’. I think this cultivates a crowd that trusts in their curation, they’ve fostered this really special energy. 

I played on Friday night between two live sets, Christian Coiffure and Renslink. They are two incredible acts to be sandwiched in-between which inspired the set to evolve the way it did.

For this week’s episode of CENTER BOOTH we welcome Pessimist: a Bristol mainstay, Ilian Tape affiliate and drum & bass innovator whose shadowy take on the genre often blurs the line with techno and dark ambient. Known for stark atmospherics, rolling percussion, broken beat wizardry and an uncompromising ear for an ominous mood, Pessimist has been a star attraction at cutting-edge events and clubs around the world for close to a decade, from Draaimolen to Club Night Club to Tresor to M.O.T.

His CENTER BOOTH set sinks its teeth in stealthily. The opening rolls in like fog — bass-heavy and understated — before giving way to tougher, militant steppers and half-time passages that shift the ground beneath your feet, slowing the body down without ever breaking the flow. There are no cheap tricks here, no fireworks or easy drops — instead the intensity builds little by little, drawing you deeper into a tunnel of bass and rhythm.

By the final stretch, the momentum softens into foggy ambience, a release that feels earned after the hour’s relentless grip. Minimalist and crushing, haunted and propulsive, it’s a set for locked-in heads and late-night spaces, where subtlety hits harder than spectacle, and the sound of an artist who understands not just how to move a floor, but how to reshape the room around him.

Upstairs//Downstairs, a Melbourne collective that’s been championing international artists for over five years, is now proud to launch its label with Italian-born, London-based producer Big Hands. 

Titled “Anti Militarist Dubs,” the EP stands strong in its message and sound — four cuts built for deep listening and heavy systems. 

Opening with Battle of Cannae, a dubby roller filled with crisp percussion and meditative warmth — the perfect soundtrack for sunlit sound systems. 

A2 — Battle of Carrhae follows closely behind, a deep 120BPM bass groover with detailed percussion and rich textures that tie the first side together beautifully. 

Flipping over, B1 — Stolen Land, a collaboration with Melbourne heavyweight Pugilist, takes things into club territory. Spacious, weighty and rhythmically twisted, filled with polyrhythmic grooves, a few wubs, and gritty percussive drive. Strap in. 

Closing the record, B2 — Battle of Edessa pushes the tempo to 160BPM — a sharp, hypnotic finisher that shows why Big Hands continues to stand out as one of the most exciting producers doing it right now.
