Adghal #2 W/ AHMED ALAA | Ma3azef Radio [25.05.22]

Our next mixtape comes from Luka Aron, a German musician and composer of electroacoustic and minimalist music,  with a selection of tunes with unusual harmonics. 
 
 
Based between Berlin and Stockholm, Aron’s practice is largely focused in the
spectral fusion of synthesised sound and acoustic instruments, combining the raw energy
of power electronics with the fragility of the human touch. The framework of Aron’s compositions is often based on the observation of psychoacoustic phenomena and how they relate to just intonation. A careful selection of partials is presented, stimulating additional tones in the perception of the listener. Through this, a secondary structure is gradually unveiled: like light rays meeting the surface of water, partially reflecting back to air, and refracting at once as they pass from one medium to the other. As such, Aron employs methods of reverse-engineering auditory processes with the aim of invoking alternative listening modes. By putting the act of tuning at the
centre, many beating patterns are exposed, and the spectrum is flooded with overtones and
feedback.
Aron is a Musikakademie Basel (CH) graduate and is currently pursuing a master’s
degree in Electroacoustic Composition at The Royal College of Music in Stockholm (SE). He’s recently published a new release, Tinctures (Ediciones Capablanca, 2022). The 10” consists of pure and magnified recordings of a chord-zither, laying bare the instrument’s inherent resonances and quivering sustain – with an immediate physical and emotional affect. By way of close miking, the instrument appears bigger-than-life; at once cavernous and bone-dry. Through this, the listener becomes witness to microscopically observed sound phenomena as the decay of the string in stasis, unveiling many pulsating patterns, capable of inducing austere and solemn alternate states of mind.
As the pieces unfurl, the zither is joined by a neglected and untuned pipe organ found in a 13th-century chapel in the rural North of Germany. Its tones were later electronically matched to fit the harmonic space, adding another layer of the subtle interaction between pitch and timbre.
 
The mixtape Aron has prepared for us aims to explore these unusual tonalities and harmonics in delightful eeriness for the listener's ears.

Nachdem im ersten Teil des Podcasts ein Höressay über schwäbischen Kartoffelsalat bereits das Dreieck »Klang – Wissen – Fiktion« abgezeichnet hat, wird es in Teil 2 nun mit einem Gespräch zwischen Friedemann und Áron Birtalan weiter mit Inhalt gefüllt. Áron und Friedemann sprechen über ein Thema, das beide viel beschäftigt: World Building — insbesondere auch: Was kann »Sonic World Building« sein? Wie können wir uns eine bessere Welt (akustisch) vorstellen? 

Áron Birtalan ist Künstler:in und Musiker:in. Zu Árons Arbeit gehören angeleitete Spiele, mystische Praktiken, Musikveröffentlichungen, widerspenstiges Gedankengut und Publikationen. Áron interessiert sich für eine Arbeitsweise, die wie ein Interface funktioniert, und durch welche sich intime Beziehungen mit dem Unbekannten entwickeln können.
Áron hat am Königlichen Konservatorium in Den Haag und an der DAS Graduate School in Amsterdam studiert, und ist aktuell PhD Kandidat_in in Choreografie an der Universität der Künste in Stockholm mit dem Rechercheprojekt »Your Bones Hold the Shape of What's to Come«.

Friedemann Dupelius arbeitet mit Klang und Sprache und bezeichnet seine Profession als Sonic Author. Er studierte in Karlsruhe an der Hochschule für Musik und an der Hochschule für Gestaltung, sowie Sound Studies an der Universität in Köln.
Als Friday Dunard produziert Friedemann Dupelius genre-übergreifende elektronische Musik, die er veröffentlicht, live aufführt oder in DJ-Sets mischt. Unter dem Pseudonym Wednesday Dupont kreiert er Hörspiele, Radiostücke, Klangforschung, digitale und akustische Texte für Radio, Festivals und Internet.

After a radio essay about Swabian potato salad in the first part of the podcast has already drawn the triangle »sound – knowledge – fiction«, it is now further filled with content in part 2 with a conversation between Friedemann and Áron Birtalan. Áron and Friedemann talk about a topic that occupies both of them a lot: World Building – in particular also: what can »Sonic World Building« be? How can we imagine a better world (sonically)? 

Áron Birtalan is an artist, musician and a student of theology, whose work explores languages of pleasure and anguish between angel, creature and computer.
Working together with participants and their imagination as an artistic medium, Áron creates guided games, mystical practices, musical releases, unruly thoughts and publications. They are interested in a practice that acts as an interface through which intimate relationships with the unknowable may unfold.
They received their education at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, the DAS Graduate School in Amsterdam and are currently a PhD candidate in Choreography at Stockholm University of the Arts with their research project ›Your Bones Hold the Shape of What's to Come‹.

Friedemann Dupelius works with sound and language and describes his profession as Sonic Author. He studied in Karlsruhe at the Hochschule für Musik and at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, as well as Sound Studies at the University in Cologne.
As Friday Dunard, Friedemann Dupelius produces cross-genre electronic music, which he releases, performs live or mixes in DJ sets. Under the pseudonym Wednesday Dupont he creates radio plays, radio pieces, sound research, digital and acoustic texts for radio, festivals and internet.

Atlas, the label debut EP by Foxconn Suicide, is a dense ocean of dilated, murky industrial grooves, shimmering trance-derived arpeggios and sporadic noisy, deteriorating assaults.

In a swamp steeped in digital pitfalls, the duo's mechanical contortions turn a stern gaze to the mournful march of the industrial world and the cold rave nostalgia of centuries past, guiding us to the stake of an old and painful path, favoring under their breath an unknown and present torment.

Exploring the dangerous limits of the senses, the EP's five tracks accompany us on this violent immersion into the human ego, accepting the intimate and dark boundaries of self-processing and finally rebelling through an uneasy, neuromantic but necessary reaction.
