London had a lot to do with Hector Morillo’s break in music. After moving from Mexico to the capital he landed a job at Phonica Records, where getting to know Loco Dice and Anja Schneider helped him land releases on mobilee and Desolat. He was also a part of the famous T-Bar venue during Shoreditch’s early-2000s heyday, frequently playing alongside guys like Jamie Jones before they’d broken through. 

T-Bar has long since vanished from East London’s party circuit, and Hector’s profile now extends far beyond the capital too. A big part of this success has been Vatos Locos, the party and record label he runs from his Berlin home base. 

This summer he brought the party across Europe, including a residency at one of Ibiza’s most revered small venues, Underground. Hector also lands in Farringdon alongside key crew members Chad Andrew, David Gtronic and Randall M on 13th October, so we asked Hector for a mix and interview ahead of their appearance.

Detroit, Chicago, New York, London, Paris… All have played a part in the evolution of this thing we call house music. Well ladies and gentlemen of the dancefloor it’s time to widen our horizons and add the capital of Paraguay*, Asuncion to that list for today we present to you our latest release, the 1983 EP, straight from the studio of LPZ, Latin America’s hottest export since Gisele Bundchen.

Coming to our attention via remixes for labels such as Tirk and several more hip-hop releases (produced under the name Lopez) on the London Keep Up imprint (and on a forthcoming Ninja Tune compilation), the 1983 EP sees them ditch the vowels and make a move in a more 4/4 direction.

First up we have the EP’s title track. 1983, guaranteed to see shares in Lino companies go through the roof as its body-popping, electro-shocking, acid boogie heralds a breakdance revival that thankfully has nothing to do with Ashley Banjo.

Track 2, Mafia (Dub), is a lazer precisioned piece of late night dancefloor engineering, in fact choice anecdote for you here, our mastering engineer (and all round top DJ Rob Pearson) was moved to call us up mid session to ask if he could play it out that very night. We’ll take that as proof we’re doing something right…

Finally completing the EP we have Snake & Butterfish, which stretching for the automatic adjective generator we’re going to call ‘slow-mo dubby Arabic acid house’, we suggest you take a listen and then just slap your own ‘Rocking Down the Casbah’ headline on any cover feature you’re planning.

Mostly known for his works with the Ears on Earth label and BF Treatment duo, JAI does what he usually does best on his edit of Magic Fly; Mixing up ravey 90’s sounds with a modern twist. Lau Tropico then proceeds with his take on Djulu, that eases us for the heavier load coming in later. Aaron Maple do his usual magic that we’ve all been accustomed to with his edit of This Is A Sound. A sure-fire party starter that’ll make even the most modest guest make this feet do a 1-2 step. Ramin and Reda continues on, where Aaron left us, with their heavily middle-eastern inspired Dehati and guides us for our final number by the man behind the operation; Miro-Benji. The release ends with, in his own words, an “anti-edit” of Love Will Tear Us Apart. One of those tracks that is perfect as an ender but still leaves the listener urging for more.

We are happy to announce the debut EP Portuguese-Italian Vhyce. After his track „Back To Where I Never Was“ on a well received Lost Tapes Vol. 4, he is no stranger to the AEON camp anymore. Known from his releases on Catz N’ Dogz „Pets Recordings“, the young producer delivers a stunning 4 track EP with the title „These Words“.

Vhyce has a very characteristic sound design, which makes his simple and almost minimalistic, but catchy tunes so special; Though always trying to add something new to his repertoire. Like on the title track „These Words“ it was one of the first few attempts for him to sing some vocals on his own instrumentals. „While not being good at singing, I think it really set you free to be able to express your ideas yourself without relying on someone else understanding of your vision,“ he claims.

The track is built around an arpeggiated bass line oscillating between two sequences thats progressively build tension without being too obvious. The lyrics „These words have no meaning“ fell mysterious and open to interpretation. 
 
On the remix duty there’s no one less but „Chicken Lips“ legend Andrew, better known as The Emperor Machine. He stripped back the original to a more funky & grooving rework.  “The plan was to create something that keeps the same emotion as the original mix but still feels different enough without changing direction too much & I think I managed to achieve that”, Andrew says. And yes, what a musical masterpiece he delivered!

„Strive for Ego“ is an attempt to fuse „Can“ & „Neu!“ Krautrock influences into a club track“, says Vicente. Constantly driving forward, with perfect temper and timing to rise tension and built up energy Track title refers to the lyrics... „I’m nobody“.

„Old You“ has a more traditional Italo Disco feel. The „happy“ sounding bass line is counterbalanced with rough and psychedelic analog leads, reminding of traveling through time and space in a 80‘s Sci-Fi movie. The vocoded lyrics shall „refer to an hate-love relationship with your old you....Maybe because it „holds you“, Vhyce describes.
