Pluggin' away at the Castlevania episode of Retro Beats. Had a crazy idea of mixing both the famicom and NES versions of Castlevania 3 songs together. The two version actually compliment themselves pretty well: famicom has a lot more mid/low fuzz which drowns out the high end a little, however the NES has more emphasis on the high end tones and a warmer, simpler low end bass. Mixing the two together actually sounded good.

Or maybe I'm fucking crazy and it's all awful.

"Heart of Fire" from the 1986 NES game "Castlevania", composed by Kinuyo Yamashita and Satoe Terashima.

This is not from emulation. This was recorded from a genuine front-loading NES console. The NES was modded so its audio would bypass the amp/mixdown stage. This dual-channel audio directly from the 2A03 chip was amplified by a FiiO E6 and captured by a Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro at 24-bit/96khz through Audacity, then mixed down to mono and losslessly encoded using FLAC. In other words, it's essentially the authentic NES hardware sound but without the buzzing noise. All credit for this recording goes to "The Iron Goat".
