Shadow Clock is the 4th Etude from the work Four Hommage Études for piano, 

The piece has two separate and distinct layers. Left hand creates a very soft and fragile harmonic background of cluster-type aggregates while the right one executes a double isorhythmic passage on higher registers. The task of the student is to find ways to highlight each layer without disturbing the overall blending balance.

Out Of The Cloud is some sort of full circle for me. It’s a disclosure from the last EP when we moved from the house next to the junkyard and a fabric that made coffins (from the period I wrote Jane’s Junkyard.) We moved to a village at the border of the Veluwe. I grew up in a similar village near the dunes at the other side of the country, so returning to nature has become a returning point to truly realize where I come from.

Out Of The Cloud is the transition between leaving all the bad things behind and moving on. Finally in nature again, finding peace, tranquility and balance in our lives. The isolation confronted me a lot for who I am. This mini-album is a metaphor for escaping and leaving super dense urban areas and enjoying and accepting the great wide open.

This piece has been written when the little chickens came out of their coop last year. The chickens were just this big to not get caught by cats or vulture birds. With all these funny little creatures, wandering around the yard, it’s been a perfect inspiration for this piece.

X Anthèmes (for ensemble)  is based on national anthems from various countries around the globe. National anthems are, with very few exceptions, heavily militaristic, “serious” music. In this piece they are processed, reformed and re-presented from a virtuosic, lighter and more translucent perspective. Although the selection of the Anthems was made solely with artistic criteria, the reformation itself can be considered as a political statement.
