You fought your way up the pitch of your piss-white nag,
  bivouacked yourself  'pon its sagging spine,
    humped down, victorious, teetering,
      lurching away in an uneven line...

The way was pocked and rutted,
  your steed's hoof found every ditch,
    limping, swaying, snorting, braying,
      you floundered...

Flailing at the hornet's nest, your hands stung again,
  you turned and spat a tooth at the hills~
    a Shepherd from a Place Above shook his head,
    then you disappeared!

  you spy'd a Thing that rides a'mongst the stars
    comin'g in a'gainst the flags,
      a Horseman in the sky!
  Amblin'g down to'meet the ground,
    muzzle whickerin'g vapour... you choke'd...
  Turning then be'neath a wide brim,
    the Rider's face was bone!
      And you will meet Him in a field screamin'g,
        “Ojinaga!  Carcosa!  Francisco!  Villa!”
    And you will meet Him in Death's field screamin'g,
  “Ojinaga!  Carcosa!  Francisco!  Villa!”

Sockets fell u'pon you there
  you folde'd your arms a'gainst your breast
    as he swung lo' you swung too high,
      a footman in the sky!
  He locke'd you in, hammer cocke'd
    muzzle whickerin'g vapour and you choke'd... again...
  you drew His eye away from Francisco,
    Villa takes the day!
      And you will meet Him in a field screamin'g,
        “Ojinaga!  Carcosa!  Francisco!  Villa!”
    And you will meet Him in Death's field screamin'g,
