so i actually don't like this song much, but i once had a dream where this song was playing and the music video was this epic lesbian love story. so clearly this pitchshifting (at 3 semitones) was necessary.

i don't really know how i feel about it, because patrick's voice is straining through half the song in the first place, so i don't know if he sounds chipmunky or what being at a higher pitch, but i figured to upload it anyway and let everyone else decide for themselves.

this is down about 4.5 semitones, AND the tempo was sped up 6%. i've been experimenting with tempo changes to make higher pitches sound less squeaky and lower pitches sound less like the Exorcist.

i, uh, really like LDR's ~boy voice~. another one is coming up.

this is brought down four semitones. it makes it sound sadder and more earnest, i think.

also, my version was mixed really low, not sure why, so you might want to turn up your volume. :)

i wasn't even going to upload this. this is up 3.72 semitones. it's kind of harsh on the ears, honestly. but i sort of like it? but i know pretty much no-one else would so i'm not really unleashing it on the public, it's just sitting here.

i imagine that adam lazzara's lady counterpart has black and pink hair and is short and john nolan's lady counterpart rocks a chelsea and a septum piercing.

i brought this down 3.75 semitones. i tried to remove the male vocals without it sounding too weird... but trust me, it sounded even weirder with the male vocals being that low.

this was, i believe, also brought down 3.5 semitones and sped up 6%. "love you more than those bitches before" sounds a lot different when from the point of view of a man.

this is up 3.5 semitones. it only works on his early songs and i don't know why. his voice seems clearer. this song is totally badass sounding like a woman singing it though.

Hello, and welcome to my Soundcloud page. Here, you will find other people's music with the pitch shifted up or down to make the singer sound like the "other sex." None of this music is mine, and I know that pitchshifting is not exactly some kind of inaccessible ability (I use Audacity by SoundForge, let's be real). There are two reasons I do this. One is because sometimes the voice ends up sounding really nice. The second and more important one is as a sort of gender experiment. What makes someone sound male or female? What happens when a song sounds like it's sung by the "opposite gender" and all the pronouns are left intact? How does the story change? How does the tone of the song change?

I typically post these with few comments so one can judge for themselves. I mostly only post experiments that turn out well, i.e. nothing chipmunky or weirdly demonic sounding. I hope you enjoy listening to these and that they provoke some thinking about gender and sexuality for you, too. Thanks!
