Transformer - Deepak

Transformer return with their 4th EP and their first release on Numerology Records. With the addition of smoky, soulful vocals from sassy new singer Roxy Sections, ‘Feel The Beast’ sees a fresh sound for the band, taking things deeper into their influences of disco, house, funk and soul, with more emphasis on the improvisational live sound that the band are infamous for. Expect an onslaught of analogue synths, hypnotic basslines and tripped-out vocals.

The first track 'Love Before’ kicks off with a 90's New York influence complemented by a hypnotic low-slung groove.  Lead singer Johny Giles and Roxy's cheeky vocal interplay floats seamlessly over syncopated beats. The rhythm section maintains a bouncy pace as live drums shuffle and dance with the tough and steady bass guitar line. This dancefloor-friendly track is a proper foot tapper, successfully setting the tone for the band’s new direction.

Cut to track two. It's 3am, you've landed free entry into a seedy members-only club and you're lovin' it. The spontaneity of the vocals add a magic touch to the unpredictable instrumentation fuelling a jam-based structure. 'Deepak' is the unapologetic late-night vibe changer, it’s just what the out-of-hours doctor would prescribe.

One...more...tune...this last one soars far into a warped intergalactic disco galaxy. Vocoder-effected vocals swell zero gravity style over chunky beats to build a huge sound that, even after 8 1/2 minutes, leaves you wanting much more....

Been doing this remix, try your best to catch it the download before Fly Lo rings me up (presumably) to take it down! Felt compelled to chop it up because of the vocal all on it's own at end, wonderful voice and production. Nice one Mr Lap, you did swell! Gonna be honest did this in a couple of hours sooooooo hope it's not too scary :)

"Boof! Number seven in Numerology's young catalogue marks Eone's second EP for the label and only his sophomore release altogether! We were pretty damn impressed by the producer's debut and it's a pleasure to hear him back on top form with some more of his glitchy deep house. "Retribute" is an utterly deep, utterly seductive burner complete with some truly mesmerising atmospherics, whereas "Continue Comme Ca" speeds up the tempo and transforms into a sort of footworkian experimental number. The latter is reworked into a bass-heavy floor-filler by Mitch Wade Cole (watch out for that drop!), and the former by Leigh Morgan, who proceeds to enter an even more cavernous level of deepness thanks to those woozy vocals and chugging groove.
