Called a "slice-of-life comedy/drama," the independent feature, To Cross the Rubicon, was produced by the Lensman Company of Seattle, directed by Barry Caillier; produced by Caillier and company partner, Patricia Royce. 

The film starred co-writers Lorraine Devon Wilke and Royce, along with famed singer/songwriter, J.D. Souther, as their shared love-interest, Billy Burke (Twilight, Revolution) as the “young leather thing,” and David Crosby in a small but charming featured role.

A hit on the festival circuit, garnering positive reviews and enthusiastic audiences, the film went on to a limited but successful domestic run and was released on video in the late 90’s, on DVD in 2001. Occasionally appearing on German TV, it currently can be found in the odd video store or truck stop, and is available for purchase or rental on such sites as Yahoo, Amazon, EBay, Netflix, etc.

Somewhere on the Way is a collection of rock/roots/pop songs written, arranged, and produced by Lorraine Devon Wilke and guitarist Rick M. Hirsch. Devon Wilke's gritty, soulful voice and provocative lyrics help underscore the notion that regardless of trends and changing culture, she remains a potent force for relevant, authentic music that rocks while still having something to say. 

Eleven original songs tell stories of true love and heartache, loss and redemption, aching loneliness and raucous joy; an eclectic album that manages to be both rowdy and profound, traveling through roots/acoustic territory, straight-up rock/blues rock, soulful story songs, and even a touch of salsa.

Co-produced by ace engineer John Perez at Audioworks Recording in Glendale, CA, Devon Wilke is backed by the exceptional team of Hirsch on acoustic and electric guitars and guitar synth, Tony Brock (The Babys, Rod Stewart) on drums, Will MacGregor (Tori Amos, Exene Cervenka) on bass, Chris Many on keys, and Sandra Beane on cello. SOMEWHERE ON THE WAY

CHICK SINGER is Lorraine Devon Wilke's fourth novel, the story of a former '80s rock singer whose life is turned upside down when her old music is posted online and it hits:

a new-wave/rock/soul band that hit the LA scene in the early 80s and became one of the more popular bands of the era, is a perfect fit. Built around the core songwriters, guitarist David Resnik, drummer Tony Alexander, and vocalist Lorraine Devon (Wilke), the group played the LA MTV-era circuit inclusive of Madame Wong's, Sasch, The Lingerie, FM Station, The Palace, and other top original music clubs, recorded with some of the best producers in the business, even garnered the attention of uber-promoter and producer, Kim Fowley of The Runaways fame. 

The original line-up, beyond the core three, was Jeff Brown on bass and Glenn Rueger on keyboards. Over the years of the band's reign, other players included Tim Bonhomme (keys), Patrick McDermott (guitar), Bryan Paris (steel drums), Mark Stebbeds (guitar), and others.

The Ghost

A child of the Midwest with roots in folk music, a teenage belter who left college to tour with Lonnie & the Lugnutz, and later a veteran of the Los Angeles music scene, Lorraine Devon Wilke has virtually underscored her life with music.

It was in Los Angeles where she first gained notice as an up-and-coming singer/songwriter when her original band, DEVON. The “new wave/soul” band built a loyal following during the height of the 80s, playing the famed circuit from Madame Wong’s and FM Station to The Lingerie, Sasch, and The Palace. This Devon_loft_new sitewas the memorable era of big hair, leather and lace, wild, raucous performances, and the sense of being part of a new movement: the MTV era, with its requisite clanging guitars, reedy keyboards, and outrageous costumes. Writing, recording, and performing songs that were a distinctive mix of New Wave rock and soul, DEVON was an industry and club favorite, garnering regional and international recognition while working with such respected producers as the late Bob Shad of Mercury and Mainstream Records, Australian hitmaker Brian Cadd, and rock veterans Bob DeStocki and Craig Krampf, to name a few.

By the late-80s, Devon Wilke was collaborating with Rod Stewart vets, Kevin Savigar and Jim Cregan, in a project called THIRD PERSON, during which time she worked with some of rock music’s best. Co-writing and recording songs that have appeared in numerous film soundtracks and performed around the world, she’s updated a few from this catalogue for her most recent project, Sixth & Third, including “Tender Mercy," "Caught In the Rain" and various other.

It was also during this time that Devon Wilke became a favorite session vocalist for production and publishing companies, cutting tracks for countless songwriters and jingle producers. Her vocals have been featured in commercials, industrials, television promos, film soundtracks, and TV theme songs.

With her music attracting the attention of filmmakers, she widened her focus to include screenwriting. One of her features, co-written with filmmaker Patricia Royce, To Cross the Rubicon, was produced by Seattle’s The Lensman Company, and featured both her songs and her performance, opening myriad new doors along her career path.

In 2001 she met Rick Hirsch, a versatile and accomplished guitarist, and they formed ROAD TO BLUE, a powerful blues/rock project that quickly met with success, playing such noted venues as Harvelle’s in Santa Monica and B.B. King’s Blues Club at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles.

After developing a substantial library of original material, they recorded an 11-song CD called Richer for Rain, a project that later evolved into a solo vehicle for Devon Wilke under the new title, Somewhere On the Way. Well reviewed as “musically timeless,” this soulful collection of roots/rock songs garnered a new league of fans and deepened the respect for her singing and songwriting skills.

More recent songwriting and recording forays have taken her from Los Angeles to Chicago to San Diego and her latest novel, CHICK SINGER, tells a tale that pulls from her long and storied career in the music business. Check her website for updates!
