20 year old, singer/songwriter from Calgary Alberta, Loryn Taggart is a new national talent on the rise.
From a very young age, her piano skills and music appreciation set her apart from most of her peers as she learned her first song by ear, at age six-the classic song Watermark by Irish vocalist/composer Enya.

After years of practice, songwriting and piano lessons along with a couple years of self taught guitar, Loryn continues to work toward launching her music career. She recorded her first demo CD at age 14 in collaboration with her older brother Matthew. This demo found itself in the hands of the late Jackie Washington, the talented Hamilton, Ontario, bluesman whose career included recordings with Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington and Joni Mitchell.

The message that this young blues, folk, and jazz artist brings is more sophisticated than most. “All the glitz and glam is too much pressure on teens. I want to be real, and I want to show them that they can relate to me, because I relate to them.” Says Loryn by adding, she wants to capture their attention with jazz and blues tones. ” It’s a whole different effect on music and you don’t see it very often anymore, especially by someone my age.” Loryn is passionate about pushing out a new sound.

Through her unique style, breathy voice, clever lyrics, and love of performing (most recently at The Drake Hotel and also opening for country singer Caroline Dawn Johnson, this won’t be the last time you hear about the up and comer.
