OMGG – Short Shorts Tonight [Live at Electric Cactus, Dallas]

Track 4 of the OMGG “Dallas Live Series”. 💃✨

“Short Shorts Tonight” is OMGG’s 50s-style doo-wop / rock ’n’ roll tribute to the classic “Short Shorts” by The Royal Teens. The original song was written by Tom Austin, Bill Crandell, Bill Dalton and Bob Gaudio and released in 1958, becoming a top 3 U.S. hit and one of the defining teen novelty / doo-wop singles of its era. Later it found a second life in commercials and pop culture, but it started as a raw rock ’n’ roll idea about girls in ultra-short cutoff jeans. 

OMGG don’t play a line-for-line cover here. “Short Shorts Tonight” is their own live version built on that spirit: Gigi on playful lead vocal, the rest of the girls doing stacked doo-wop backing, and Mark (Gigi’s brother) on upright-style bass and shout-along responses. The crowd at Electric Cactus yells “Short shorts!” in call-and-response while the band leans into honking sax and 50s guitar licks, turning a Dallas Saturday night into a jukebox dance floor.

All rights to the original composition “Short Shorts” and its recordings belong to The Royal Teens writers and the respective copyright holders. “Short Shorts Tonight” is an OMGG tribute and reimagined live arrangement in that 50s style, not a full cover or remake of the original record.

Captured live at Electric Cactus in Dallas as part of the Latitude Records “Dallas Live Series”, this track shows the retro rock ’n’ roll side of OMGG between the modern hip hop and cinematic songs in the set.
