on my fingers in places

telltale signs of
a bath too long??
or a life immersed
in the later footprints
of ones passage
there is snow in my hair
but it's June
scars mark my body
like roadmaps
to possible exits
that I missed
along the way

I have painted
and sculpted
smiles on many faces
my work is world wide
but I remain
a small person
5 foot ten
in wrinkling flesh
unable to recover
a new canvas
for my life
or smooth away
the lines I have
sculpted by stress
in my flesh
my songs are cries
to all who are
yet passing
through the stages
I left long ago
where I took my bows
and encores
where I endured the boos
and catcalls
and exited far to soon
savour each moment
study the flawless
skin of your youth
the sheen of well oiled hair
gleaming in the sun
pay attention to the breath
as it enters and exits
for I have been
where it does
not respond

of suffocation
value it all

as just another older man

I draw constant inspiration from her amazing works, and I hope she won't mind! Although I doubt she'll ever hear my songs, her influence on me is undeniable, and I appreciate the creative spark her music and her tweets ignite.

Echo Chamber

The weight of history
is pressing us down
making us small
it is a huge monkey
on our collective backs
Banging our heads
together like coconuts
because we do not learn
from what history has dealt us
we keep doing
the same things
over and over again
we pass on our past prejudices
to our children who also pass
them on to their children
like a huge communal torch of hate
that we fail to extinguish
bringing all the anguish
from the past into our homes
and our lives, polluting the minds
of our innocents who
too become guilty
of propagating the hate

we are all bent
under the weight
can we not shed it
like a rain soaked. tear soaked
heavy drenched sweater.
throw it free from us
look upon all humans
as being worthy of our love
and trust
and then sharing it
we could all stand tall
again and be giants
it starts with one
shaking off the sorrows
and heading towards
their tomorrows
with a new attitude
of love for all
cause all we really need is love

regardless of faith or race
instead of our weary chase
to build a space
between all of those
who differ from us

I went outside again today
