Lost And Lonesome and Jigsaw Records are proud to announce a special co-release: an international split-EP on 7-inch vinyl comprising two of the most beloved and unassumingly iconic indiepop bands of the past thirty years, Rocketship and The Cat’s Miaow!

Whilst contemplating a meaningful way to mark their 25th year in the game, Melbourne record label Lost And Lonesome popped the question to Portland’s Jigsaw Records (themselves celebrating the milestone of their 200th release) to join forces for this fun and fantastic foray into new sounds by two bands who’ve provided decades of inspiration to both labels. Thankfully, the bands were willing and happy to be involved and the resulting recordings stand alongside the finest work in their respective oeuvres.  

Following a spate of recent re-issues, the natural progression for Australia’s pint-sized-pop pioneers The Cat's Miaow was to turn their attention from re-issuing their back catalogue to adding to it by recording new songs. In a decidedly modern update to their 4-track recordings of the 90s, the three new Cat’s Miaow songs presented here were grown from ideas shared as Instagram stories, which were sampled and then transformed into something new. According to the band, it’s fitting that the release of The Cat’s Miaow’s first new recordings in 25 years is on a split-7” single with Rocketship, a format and band that are both very special to them. 

Taking a break from recording their follow-up to 2019’s Thanks to You album, the Portland-based Rocketship has created a modern revisioning of the classic, ‘Moon Love’. Rocketship’s Dusty Reske says “I’ve always loved Chet Baker’s version of ‘Moon Love’ from the My Funny Valentine CD, but it’s only an instrumental. Researching the song, I learned there were lyrics, too, that were surprisingly effective despite their simplicity, and that Sinatra sang a couple of versions (I prefer the earlier one). Although we’ve both loved and lost, I’m not a big Sinatra fan, and his takes don’t capture for me the sad intimacy of the Baker version, so I thought Ellen and I could create something closer to what I longed to hear. I had a cool guitar arpeggio that worked with the chords and we were off and running.” The Blade Runner-inspired synth prelude ‘Chat Me Up’ kicks off proceedings on side-Rocketship and is exclusive to the physical 7” vinyl release of this EP. 

Limited to 300 copies worldwide, this special release on black vinyl comes adorned in handsome artwork designed by Dusty Reske.
