One of the early Fabio & Grooverider shows I recorded, the tune selection here sums up the way the D&B scene was going: more vocal, more funky, more soul, less techstep darkness. J Majik had just been released on a mainstream house label, Jenna G was about to make it into the charts, and DJ Marky was entering the premier league. For me at least this tape represents D&B just before it was about to blow up with tracks like Shake Ur Body (featured here) or the rise of Hospital Records. It has to be remembered that up to around 2000 the drum & bass scene was arguably in a steep decline and it would be near impossible to imagine how popular it would get in such a short time. Anyone who predicted the likes of Pendulum would've been sectioned.

This show has DJ Suv as guest to promote his new album. I have to say that while he gives good talk I found his tunes a bit boring, so this set is mainly about Fabios selection. If anyone has the Lemon D track I'd love to have it or at least know if it was ever released.

Fabio on BBC Radio 1 with DJ Suv, October 2001

The Basement was a Sunday afternoon show on 1Xtra, different guests every week coming into the studio to record a 2 hour set of usually old music that inspired them. There were some surprisingly high profile names on it but the thing was never that well promoted, often you would turn the radio on in hope of it being someone good as they hadn't announced who it was in the schedule. This time it was Oris Jay who around that time would have been producing Dubstep/ Breakstep when it was far from lucrative. He even had a hiatus from producing at some point. But this is all Old Skool Garage. The first hour was four to the floor with the second being 2-step but my file got corrupted so I never heard the later bits. Oris has always been known as a producer first and DJing a very distant second but this is a good show.

House & Garage, Jungle, UK Garage/ 2-step, Grime & Dubstep, Broken beat- and whatever quality music I can unearth from my big box of cassettes.
