LOST WEEKEND BIOGRAPHY
Lost Weekend is American/Danish singer and songwriter Jefrrey Markkus and his danish musical companion, guitarist and songwriter Jakob Birch.
The two have a musical background together as founding members of the Danish rockgroup Lovespeed, which released two albums through Sony DK, attained national radio airplay, and played shows all over Denmark throughtout the past 7 years.
After deciding to split up Lovespeed in 2016, the two young men went on a trip to the U.S., where they hit the road searching for new inspirations, visiting many of the places where the blues-, folk- and rock'n'roll songs of their upbringing had their roots.
They spent the winter and spring of 2017 in a small Copenhagen studio with sound engineer Dan Dalgas, rediscovering a simplistic and brutally honest approach to playing and recording. Their aim was to capture the presence and raw expression of the fragile songs, that had been brought to life over the past year..
In the summer of 2017 the group was joined by forming members of the shoegaze band Death Valley Sleepers: drummer Adam Winberg and bassplayer Tobias Winberg, resulting in a much more noisy and rock'n'roll approach to sound, songwriting and playing.
The band is going to record in the studio over the summer of 2018, preparing their debut release in the fall of 2018.
On stage, in his lyrics as well as on the personal level, lead singer Jefrrey will take you on a ride. Despite the theme of being lost that many of the songs hold, the listener can almost always find a holistic, optimistic and spiritual worldview arising from underneath the nostalgic surface - which is a typical characteristic of Jefrrey's songwriting.
Although Lost Weekend at times present an almost introvert sensitivity – the audience is always invited in by Jefrrey's cutting voice and excentric, desperate and openhearted stage persona.
