Originally recorded for "Weary Engine Blues", a tribute compilation for Jason Molina, the guys at Graceface Records have given us permission to release the song here as well - we're so glad to be able to share this track with you, and to share Jason's songs and story, enjoy this beautiful track.

Jason Andrew Molina (December 16, 1973 – March 16, 2013) was an American musician and singer-songwriter, originally from Lorain, Ohio. He came to prominence performing and recording as Songs: Ohia, both in solo projects and with a rotating cast of musicians. Since 2003, he had recorded either under his own name or with a stable line-up of band members as the Magnolia Electric Co.

"Very rarely do you run into a star that burns as brightly as Jason. When he is also your brother you are truly blessed. To fans of Jason’s music we want you to know you were the center of Jason’s universe, you meant everything to him. As much as his music inspired others, he was constantly and honestly inspired by you. The Donkeys - O! Grace

The Lost Ark Studio presents "In The Sun" by My Goodness, the latest single from the Lost Ark Studio Compilation - Vol. 06. Based in Seattle, the guys stopped by the studio to record this with us while on tour and delivered not one, but two powerhouse tracks during the session - this original and one hell of a cover of "I'm Going Home" by The Sonics. We're so stoked about the results that we're going to press the pair for the first in series of 7" 45 vinyl releases by the studio, look for it soon!

My Goodness is a Seattle-based blues/garage rock band that consists of Joel Schneider (Guitar/Vocals) and Andy Lum (Drums). After releasing their self-titled album in 2011, My Goodness was on hold for the majority of 2012, but with the recent addition of Andy Lum it has found a renewed purpose, moving forward with a heavier, more aggressive sound. Straddling the line between raw and refined, My Goodness doesn’t sacrifice technical precision in the name of punk rock - they strive to marry both.

As an older teen Joel’s interest in punk and the local Seattle hardcore scene led him to the more caustic, progressive sounds of bands like Rites of Spring and The Blood Brothers. The latter was also a major influence on Andy, who regularly attended all-ages gigs in Bellevue, drawing inspiration from bands big on that circuit, including Waxwing and These Arms Are Snakes.

In early 2012, Schneider was in search of a new drummer for My Goodness, and the possibility of collaborating musically with Andy Lum was finally realized. The pair recently recorded their second full length at Seattle’s London Bridge studios with esteemed Seattle producer Rick Parashar (Pearl Jam, Temple Of The Dog, Blind Melon) and have released a 7-inch for “Cold Feet Killer” b/w “I’ve Got A Notion” in February of this year.

Creekwood was formed in late 2012 in Nashville, TN when singer-songwriter duo Andrew McBride and Cooper Nelson teamed up with Bryan Hall to form an original group reaching back to the roots of country music. After moderate success in the Nashville area, McBride and Nelson took the group west to Long Beach, CA where they teamed up with local musicians Mathias Chaidez, Levi Duren and Rob Orr. They hit the ground running, releasing their first EP in September of 2013 and playing numerous shows in the Orange County and Los Angeles area. They are truly an Americana band, drawing from styles such as Bluegrass, Old Time Country, Rock, and Blues. The Lost Ark Studio presents "Hark" by Buxton, the latest single from the Lost Ark Studio Compilation - Vol. 09. Enjoy!

Buxton broadcasts a wandering sound, from the dusty tones of guitar-slinging anthems to lonesome acoustic affairs that look outward and within. Their latest effort Half A Native is music for the search for home; the long journey to find somewhere, something, or someone that makes everything fall into place. Raised in rural Texas by Mexican parents, vocalist/guitarist Sergio Trevino experienced life stranded between two cultures, unable to really identify with his Hispanic heritage and never quite fitting in musically with the local arts community.

Half A Native is a departure from the rustic sound that earned the band a devout following in the explosive Houston scene and beyond. While their acclaimed 2012 album Nothing Here Seems Strange leaned toward folk, Half A Native ventures into vast sonic territories, sometimes pairing atmospheric piano with off-kilter electric guitar, blanketed by Trevino’s heart-clenched voice and melancholic, but optimistic lyrics. “We take from a lot of different genres and present it in a way that I think is most honest for us,” Trevino says. “You'll hear rock, folk, country, ambience, and distortion, all interpreted through us.”

With Half a Native, Buxton has distilled years of long hours on the road and late nights on tour into an album that reveals new treasure the deeper you dig, and in this sediment, their friendship is bedrock holding together this band of brothers. “There's a sort of respect for the relationship and chemistry we have to continue making music and continue to explore what that means,” Trevino says. “And it's fun, I think if it wasn't then we would've stopped a long time ago.”

The Lost Ark Studio presents "Sinnerman" by Rose’s Pawn Shop, the latest single from the Lost Ark Studio Compilation - Vol. 09. Enjoy!

As so many fortuned events have unfolded, it was through a series of chance meetings, twists of fate, and a little help from Craigslist, that Paul Givant met kindred spirits in Stephen Andrews, John Kraus, Tim Weed and Christian Hogan. Together they began building the music and the band that would soon become Rose’s Pawn Shop. They combined, in their collective musical melting pot, the old style American sounds of Woody Guthrie, Bill Monroe, and Hank Williams with a higher energy approach more reminiscent of modern Alt-Rock, all with a deeply melodic songwriting sensibility. The goal was to create a sound that was unique, yet imbued with a sense of familiarity.

The final ingredient was added one fateful day when Paul’s scorned ex-girlfriend/former band-mate, Rose, in an act of revenge, stole the band’s gear and instruments from their practice space and brought it down to the local pawn shop. Priceless! The match was lit … and Rose’s Pawn Shop was born! (Of course, not until after they got their gear out of hock!)
With an arsenal of guitars, banjo, thumping upright bass, fiddle and drums, delivering neo-classical-sounding melodies and lyrics, their sound is a wholesome mishmash of creek mud, rusty nails and your mom’s cookin’. It’s sincere, straight-forward and sexy as fuck, effortlessly combining such disparate musical styles as rock, country, bluegrass, and punk to create an incomprehensibly smooth and accessible sound for true believers and skeptics alike.

They confront traditional country music themes of loss, lamentation, and redemption, with a couple of drinking songs for good measure. Sure, they’re borrowing pages from the books of Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, and Johnny Cash, but Rose’s Pawn Shop takes those pages, tears them up and sets them on fire with three and four part vocal harmonies and lyrics that’ll break your heart.

Old Salt Union are a new generation of bluegrass, influenced by the bluegrass roots of The Del McCoury Band and Sam Bush, but also drawing inspiration from Bill Evans, Danny Elfman, Punch Brothers, and many more talented musicians. What makes Old Salt Union special is their ability to stretch the boundaries of traditional bluegrass music by incorporating in-depth musical arrangements, a catchy hook, and an uncanny pop sensibility. 
 
Old Salt Union recorded their debut album, “Western Skies”, in 2012 and it was clear by the overwhelmingly positive response that their fan base would grow rapidly in the following months. In January of 2014, Old Salt Union began exclusively touring the country, so that their reach would expand, exposing more fans to their type of complex, high energy, and well-executed sound.

With the release of their second studio album, “Bridge”, in 2014, Old Salt Union tells a tale of transition. The two years that they have been together has shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of music. They have established solid roots, winning the STL Riverfront Times “Best Bluegrass Band” in 2013 and “Best Country Band” in 2014, all while traveling the country. Whetherman is the product of 31 year-old singer/songwriter Nicholas Williams, whose soul-infused music has often acted as a meter for his personal life since the project started in 2007. Through folk songs filled with awareness and truth, effervescent melodies, and harmonious vocals, Whetherman takes you on a textural journey of landscapes. “There's been a theme for every album title since I've been making music under the name Whetherman,” says Williams. "Each release embodies the new places I've found inside of myself."

Mostly performing solo, Williams has stayed busy on the road since 2011, touring extensively through 35 states across the US and performing 180 dates a year. Currently, Williams is preparing the sixth full-length album, 'Seeds for Harvest', due to release late in 2014. Whetherman will also be embarking on the third nationwide solo tour this Spring, as well as the first European tour in Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, France and Spain as a trio accompanied by vocalist Rachel Murray and percussionist JP Salvat during May and June of 2014

Trouble In The Wind - Rising

The Lost Ark Studio presents "Dead Song" by Steelwells, the first single from the Lost Ark Studio Compilation - Vol. 06. So glad we can share this with you, a great track to lead off the latest in the series.

The Steelwells emerged from Orange County in late 2009 with their "Shallow on the Draft," a bright, guitar-based EP notable for its colorful melodies and sunny disposition. The band — Joey Winter, Andrew Eapen, Jonathan Bradley, Robbie Gullage and Billy Kim — diligently worked on songwriting and honing their sound. The results are striking: Steelwells' new "Cool Kids" EP is less guitar-reliant and heavier on the synths. The approach serves Steelwells' songs well, as the fivesome slathers electronics onto its guitar-bass-drums to infiltrate the psych-pop ocean, although still buoyantly as ever. Buzzbands LA
