Italo/Iranian DJ and Producer Sciahriar ‘Sciahri’ Tavakoli has been meandering throughout the spectrum of Techno ever since his 2014 debut EP on Ilian Tape ‘Mysterious Love’. His output has touched the functional paradigms of this genre as much as strongly texture-focused experimentation.

This is reflected on his multi-faceted DJ sets. His significance in the scene has been established via some of its most influential record labels, such as Opal Tapes, Manhigh, Semantica, Mord, and, in parallel, via his own outlet Sublunar Records since 2017. This has been complemented by his production with German producer Desroi (Avian / Semantica) releasing music for Semantica, Non Series and Mord, and within the left-field techno/electronica duo UNKNOT with electroacoustic musician Emanuele Porcinai (Contort / Subtext). With his label Sublunar he has been contributing to shaping the sound of contemporary Techno, releasing affirmed as well as up-and-coming artists such as Svreca, Nuel, Refracted, Donor, Nh.

He has played in some of the most influential clubs and events in Europe such as Tresor Berlin / Herrensauna, Dude Club / Acquario Milan, River Port Kiev, Utopia / Cassette Club in Madrid and many others

Sigha joins for DifferentSound Podcast #139.

James Shaw emerged from London’s burgeoning post-Dubstep scene as Sigha in 2009, with a series of carefully executed releases offering early insight into the producer’s long-lasting preoccupation with intricate sound design and rich tonal finish. Releases on James Ruskin’s Blueprint label, Shifted’s Avian imprint and his own Our Circular Sound have helped flesh out Shaw’s vision of a space where the romantic ideals of Post-Rock & New Wave exist alongside driven, Industrial Noise, wide-angle Drone and IDM. Over the last two years, Shaw has spent the forced time away from touring developing and refining a revised approach towards Techno. Taking a more open stance on both rhythm and structure, the result is a sound that is both agile and heavy hitting, encompassing the totality of his influences but guiding them directly towards the sound system. Move To Speed, released on his own OCS imprint, is the first glimpse into the results of this process. Sigha’s recognition as a producer is consummated by his skill as both DJ and live performer, with his DJ sets channeling the same unyielding energy as his recorded work; oscillating between elongated mixing style and moments of intuitive dynamism, to build a powerful tension on the dance floor.

The Paris based artist dc11 got into making music via modular synthesisers and to this day they are his tool of choice in the studio as well as in clubs. Gravitating towards the loopy side of techno, his live sets always leave a big part to improvisation. Finding ways to slightly shift loops hasn’t lost its appeal yet.

Founding member of the SRIE Records label where he contributes his musical pieces and mastering knowledge since 2013 in Buenos Aires, Joel Pulso challenges the stablished structures in the musical framework since his style became more definitive, experimental, analogous and hypnotic, developing a unique imprint, based on minimalism and the collage method through home-made recordings.

His project with Translate, focuses all the potential of both artists, making clear the objective of immersing the listener in their semantic field, going from psychical and cerebral music, to the most sci-fi & loopy danceable style as far as their productions and sessions are concerned.

Pulso is part of the great Argentine scene providing musical legacies in renowned labels such as Subsist, Semantica, Float, Antiterra, Mindtrip and in its own signature before detailed: SRIE, where in each release along with Translate, deliver quality music and concept, giving rise to the best artists oscillating within their sound´s framework.

In parallel to his music and minimalist style of work, Joel Pulso faces most of the cover arts of his record project, under the name of Fractales DIY, formerly publisher of fanzines and handmade books, today factory that spits out the crudest and surreal analog collages that, taking part of the catalog:  define his vision as an artist.

Michel Lauriola, originally from Venezuela, is a DJ and producer based in Buenos Aires (Argentina). He has been active in the scene for over 20 years and the city witnessed his evolution over the years which resulted in a very rhythmic and deep techno artist. Not only is Michel Lauriola known for his DJ skills, he has also released his music on several labels such as the well known Polegroup, Animal Farm, Children of Tomorrow and Out of Place. The productions that he has put out has been played by well respected DJ’s such as Oscar Mulero, Rødhåd, Tensal, Lewis Fautzi and Dasha Rush to name a few. 

For those who are familiar with Michel Lauriola know that he likes to keep his energy high and dark with his approach of techno.
