maritime is a showcase of anthéne's patient yet intriguing soundscaping, but this time with an altogether more grounded and directional approach. After an unmistakably calming first half, the album journeys somewhat darker, more introspective, without drawing away from the vastness of its initial input.

A new, more focused sound for anthéne, maritime presents a real cognitive exploration, framed by its subject - the vastness, awe and terror of the ocean.

Good morning friends and fellow music lovers. Apologies for the silence on my end for yet another week. I’ve caught the virus once again. It seems to me, from now on, it’s something that we live with. I’m finally recovering, and it’s like waking up to being human. What better way to start anew than with some gorgeous music? I have been patiently awaiting to tell you about this upcoming release from Yair Elazar Glotman because I’m truly excited about it! On October 27th, this Berlin-based composer will release his next opus, titled Speculative Memories, via SA Recordings imprint. This piece of music is extremely textural, organic, and alive. The cinematic tendency to paint a wide-scaped narrative is not an accidental trait. Glotman has made a name for himself among purveyors of post-classical and dark ambient sounds with releases on Glacial Movements, Subtext, and Miasmah since 2014. He’s worked on film scores alongside the master, the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, and collaborated with many of the scene’s known names, such as Viktor Orri Árnason, Lucy Railton, and Mats Erlandsson, who appears on the new album as well. But Glotman stands out on his own, in this very personal, and introspective plunge into the memories. The pieces on the album are all associated with a specific recollection of the past, inviting the listener to venture deep into their own remembrance. The opening piece, which I am honoured to premiere for you today, is about a specific year – it is about 1998, which holds a special meaning for this artist. And although “the memories I ‘used’ as material for the music are of course not something anyone else can hear or read from the result, I hope that people can connect some of their own associations or memories to the words.”

Lexika is a soundtrack to an imagined sci-fi movie set in deep space. It started with an image of a completely silent explosion in space. From that image I created a narrative of sorts, where a story unfolded as I set out to create the music that would become Lexika. With Lexika I’ve tried to step outside of myself and look at life, the universe, and our fragile existence from another vantage point. The themes of the album – grief, sorrow, hope, perseverance – are themes I come back to repeatedly though. This time they’re just framed in a slightly bigger picture.

When I close my eyes and listen, I see supermassive black holes. I see the Oort cloud, asteroids hurtling through endless black, the Andromeda galaxy, a radiant supernova, the redshift at the end of the universe. I see the endless vastness of space, I see Voyager II leaving our solar system and I see Mercury as a tiny dot in front of our sun. I see a story that unfolds forwards and backwards simultaneously through time where we – humanity – are both part of it and not. How, from the cosmic perspective, mankind’s existence is so brief that you’d miss it if you blink. And how that also makes it so precious.

Dag Rosenqvist - Ignoto

Christian Balvig is a Danish composer known for his score for the Scandinavian drama series Cry Wolf [with the Copenhagen-based electropop group, When Saints Go Machine], as well as his work with orchestras like The Royal Danish Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic and The Danish Chamber Orchestra. To be completely honest, this is the first time I am listening to Balvig [although I noticed him being credited on a few Efterklang albums], and it's exciting for me to discover his music from the upcoming solo debut, Night Poem. "The album is an ode to and from the night, a rebellion against constant stimuli, and a meticulous hunt for ghost notes and the almost imperceptible sound of piano keys." The piece I am premiering for you today, titled "Where All Is", features a closely mic'ed piano with all of its beautiful mechanic sounds, just enough bass to give it the platform it needs to sustain the sparkling synth arpeggios and backing acoustic percussion. This is a lovely track to wake up to in the early morning as the darkness quietly recedes to light, and we find ourselves faced with another brand new day full of possibilities and welcome prospects. All we have to do is float throughout it all and let it be, as the universe will set its course for us to follow.

Magdalene Flowers is a project of Alex Bober - a sound artist, photographer and graphic designer. 
For Alex main sources of inspiration are nostalgia, childhood memories, escapism and power of imagination. His music is a way of expressing indescribable feelings and emotions which are half-subconscious and almost vivid in their intimacy. His music tells a story of self-hatred, slowly and pleasurably destroying an individual from the inside, childhood memories projected on everyday existence and drowning sorrow in contemplation of the simple and beautiful.

For this Exclusive Track Premiere, I'm actually inversing on my roles: instead of being the announcer, I am the featured artist, along with Uwe Zahn, for our collaborative album, title "Aeon" released on Eilean Rec. today.

During our private conversation through music, Uwe and I explored the most mysterious of mediums, dimensions and philosophies - that of "time". Time is what allows sound to exist, by carrying the pressure levels through its mythic axis. Timelessness is unbeknown to man, and concepts like "forever" and "eternity" are captured in a Latin word of "aeon". The German word "unendlich" describes the notion of infinity on which philosophers have puzzled over "ages". And as "finality" is easier to grasp, since all things come onto an end, we're left with "endlich" of ourselves and of our music.

Uwe and I sincerely hope that you connect with our studies and deconstructions thereof, inasmuch as you simply enjoy the beautiful music that we wanted to share, beyond all theories... beyond all thought... beyond all time...
