Porch playing. I sat out in the back of my car in the middle of Southampton in the middle of my shift last night and played this through a few times. Today, if I had a porch and lived in Mississipi, I'd be playing it out on the stoop in my rocking chair.

The line passed through my head yesterday and I could hear Chet Baker's voice singing it, but I had to write the lyrics and sing it to the tune of 'I Fall in Love Too Easily' to get the effect I was after. It is a full moon tonight, so I tried to put in a violin solo.

A Tim Buckley Cover. I have driven 5,000 miles in the last two months and I feel it. Most of those were on the A/M27 between Brighton and Home. Is it possible to call a road a home?

Love From the A27

This was obviously very inspired by Dirty Three, because Nicholas Flower (Happy Birthday) told me I should play like Warren Ellis and, ten years later, I decided to take his advice. This song took on the flavour of a slow jazz ballad, to my mind, and represents a good moment in my ongoing inner turmoil: Tangles of Time, Plans, Memories, Promises and Love. Well, those angels have been there for ages.

After Time

An easy-chair of a song with a solo I'm still working on, and may never finish. It's too easy to write lyrics sometimes - I think that's why I struggle - the idea that you just live and write what happens, to a meter, seems absurdly easy, like I'm cheating somehow.
