A meditation on two archival recordings, 'Zulu's Ball' by King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band in 1923, and a 1948 interview with Helen Keller and her assistant Polly Thompson by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Peter McGregor on the occasion of Keller's 1948 tour of Australia.  Also features a recording from around 1976 of Clara Rockmore playing Tchaikovsky's 'Valse Sentimentale' on the theremin, an instrument played without touch. Tony Baldwin as narrator.

This is an old track I produced in 1999. The production & mastering are quite flawed, there is some nasty clipping amongst other things.
I have changed computers and moved house at least 4 times each since I made this so probably won't be able to improve it...
... but I am still proud of it none the less.

A live sound installation and participatory composition made from the rhythms of our wiring inside and out.

Terrestrial circuits carry electronic communications across the earth and through our bodies. Wires connecting our veins, soil, blood and brain, are in constant flux, as we grow new webs of communication made of plastic, sinew and flesh.

I placed a mobile phone disguised as a landline on a coffee table, in the South East London home of curator Yuying Yang, for an open house exhibition named ‘Spring Cleaning’.

SCORE:

-       Listen to  the sounds around you and the sounds in your body.
