Jazz Liberation

I sat on this song for a long time. It means a lot to me. Almost a year later I figured it was time to get it out there. I wanted to try and capture how it feels for me to be a trans woman in this world. Bittersweet, long, painful, a little bit silly and (hopefully) beautiful.

The vocal samples are pulled from interviews with Octavia St. Laurent, Holly Woodlawn and Venus Xtravaganza. The interview with Octavia always stuck with me, the way she speaks about her desire resonates with me a lot.

The cover art is pulled from a photographic study carried out in Australia by Barry Kay in the 70’s. He photographed a wide range of trans women during that period, and I think the photos are beautiful. He, and his views were somewhat disgusting, so I don't feel bad about stealing his work for something I hope gives a nicer feeling behind them. Something about this one in particular always spoke to me though. The person in the photo is called Jasper, I have no idea if she is still alive.

Lou Cypher Project - Gettin Busy - (The JFKs Mix)

Used to spin records (Agent 1475) from about 96-2007, then started writing (2001-2007) tunes (Lou Cypher Project) once I cracked the code. Stopped making music around 2007 and went back to playing drums in a few bands. Now after about a 15 year hiatus from writing electronic music of various sorts, I’ve picked up the latest Cubase and a little bit of gear and am letting the creative juices flow again.
