Le Carousel - Lose Your Love (PK Mix)

Due on January 6th, 2014, Goodbye Fantasy EP is the 5th and the last EP of a series started in December 2012 by I’m a Cliché imprint. All related with Bot’Ox’ second long player “Sans Dormir” (out since November 2013), these EPs - “Basement Love”, The Face of Another”... have followed a similar pattern: one song from the album, a video, a bunch of club remixes, and a photo artwork by Philippe Lebruman.

Goodbye Fantasy is sung by Mark Kerr who was already featured in previous album “Babylon by Car” and can be seen on stage at Bot’Ox’ live performances as the lead vocalist and a guitarist. In terms of format and influences, Goodbye Fantasy is the track from the album that fits most with pop music standards. Unlike other songs steeped in a gloomy or nervous feeling, this one focuses in its melodic strength and its condensed dynamic. No euphoria to be expected though: lyrics are all about giving up with one’s illusions.

The video directed by French movie-maker Pierre Teulières and Clément Vallos showcases a group of people humiliated in a nightclub and forced to party. Just like other videos (The Face of Another, 2.4.1, Basement Love) and artworks (daytime photographs of abandoned nightclubs) did before, this one shows a night life that is far from current standards in popular culture of nonstop fun.

Four remixes are included in the release. Belfast man Phil Kieran delivers a club version in line with his crossover project “Le Carousel”. Moscoman, whose first EP was released by I’m a Cliché, provides a remix filled with emotion. Roman Azzaro’s remix, under his Rouge Mécanique moniker, is all about funk with rock guitars tailored for techno clubs. And finally, In Flagranti, whose recent EP on Phantasy was acclaimed, deliver a dub high on ketamine.

Language is a tricky thing. It’s possible to convey the most beautiful and heartfelt experiences with just a few words but meanings can be lost in translation. Language itself being just a symbol pointing to the actual thing, like fingers pointing to the moon it’s key not to mistake the finger for the actual moon. If you do you might miss all the heavenly glory the finger is pointing to. The map is not the territory.
Kiani & His Legion is back on SoHaSo with the next chapter in his sonic explorations. A mini-album that’s more than the sum of it parts, drawing you in with a story worth to be told. Using a language that doesn’t need to be explained trough words, the symbols merge with their meaning through sound.

The story commences with a female voice whispering gently to you to ‘close your eyes and fly’ and while making your journey don’t forget to ‘breath’. You get introduced to the sturdy drum patterns and eerie string pads that have become main ingredients for Kiani’s soundworld. Eindeloos takes an irresistible groove and badass walking bass winding up between endless flanging spirals.

Oval Flight starts out with the cheeky sound of an electric harp but inside it hides a seed that sprouts to enormous proportions. Beneath the beauty you can feel something sweltering, wanting to expose itself. It links back to the beginning and finally lifts you off with a grand gesture. If You Remember Me Then I Don’t Care If Everyone Else Forgets, uses haunting atmospheres that remind of 80’s science fiction or the eerie vibes found in Twin Peaks to provide safe landing ground beneath the feet after your flight.

L.O.V.E. forms an appropriate conclusion to the story, reflecting with a melancholic chord progression, soul healing choirs and the phonetic symbols ‘Lima, Oscar, Victor, Echo’ repeating till infinity.

Berlin duo The/Das release their sophomore album, Exit Strategies, on Life And Death. The absorbing 12-tracker is the result of a period of searching that finds the new line-up of Fabian Fenk and Philipp Koller combine multiple ideas, layers, fragments and sounds and refine their distinct idea of techno tenderness. It makes for a soothing and escapist 60 minute listen that works as well at home, on headphones, as it does loud in the club.
