Jazz Classics: An Elegant Evening

"The Lights Are Always On" is the title track of pianist and composer Lynne Arriale's powerful album available April 8, 2022 via Challenge Records International. The album features Arriale with bassist and co-producer Jasper Somsen and drummer E.J. Strickland

Arriale's 16th album as a leader features a suite of ten evocative original compositions recognizing healers, caregivers, and truth tellers. Several pieces are named in honor of heroes around the world, including people who served as caregivers on the front lines of the COVID pandemic and as defenders of democracy. Dr. Prakash Gada, a surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, whose assurance that "the lights are always on" for providing care during the pandemic, inspired the title.

Jazz Police called her "the poet laureate of her generation". She has been consistently praised as having a "singular voice" as a pianist, bandleader and composer. JazzTimes wrote, “She achieves a special, deep connection with her audience, and the energy flows both ways. Arriale’s emotional authenticity allows her audience to feel and think along with her.” Lynne won the Great American Jazz Piano Competition.  Her 15 critically acclaimed  albums  have topped the Jazzweek Radio Charts and  have received  “Best of” honors in major publications. She toured Japan with “100 Golden Fingers” with Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, Monty Alexander, Cedar Walton, Kenny Barron, Harold Mabern, Roger Kellaway, Junior Mance and Ray Bryant.  She has performed at major international festivals including Montreux, Burghausen, Gilmore, Spoleto Arts, Montreal, Monterey, North Sea, Stuttgart, Pori, San Francisco, Ottawa, Zagreb, Perth, Brisbane, Rouen, Sardinia, Rochester, Wigan, Poznan, Estoril, Inverness, Cork and San Javier.
