Shine on Kids NYC (https://www.shineonkidsnyc.com/) was created by Miss Maria, a local Harlem mom to a 2-year-old daughter. Maria is a flute player who majored in Music Education at the University of Florida. and earned her Master's Degree in Childhood Education from Brooklyn College. Maria has worked as a music teacher for over 8 years and has founded elementary music programs throughout New York City. As a working mom, Miss Maria found it difficult to find classes and events for children that fit their busy schedule.  Shine on Kids NYC runs on an alternative schedule to give families the opportunity to bond, learn and grow together through musical experiences.

Podcast Episode 23 / Love City TV Ep. 2 - "Gifts from the Train"

"Dance music has always spoken to my soul and whenever I listen to it," Thornton says, "my spirit automatically comes alive. It has a way of making me feel empowered, joyous, and with a complete zest for life."
Thornton was born in North Carolina, but at just three years old, his parents moved to Long Island, New York, which is where young Carl was raised. He began singing at age seven and started his humble beginnings in the elementary school chorus.

It didn't take long for Carl to realize that singing was what he wanted to do forever. In fact, it came as an epiphany while he was on stage at his very first performance. From that moment on, he knew that singing was what he wanted to do with his life.
His talent didn't stay in one place for long — his remarkable voice has taken him all over the world to places like Austria, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. He's also traveled to Holland, Istanbul, Dubai, Portugal, and China — all locations for which he was contracted to tour in 2016.

It didn't come easy though. Like all artists, Carl went through his fair share of challenges. But in the end, he continued to realize that the only thing he wanted to do was sing — and not just any kind of music. Carl has a unique talent for dance music. The genre has always been the favorite of the young artist.

"[So] when I decided to start recording, dance music was a natural fit for me," Thornton says.
Where some artists fail to find their passion for a niche, Carl Thornton certainly found his within dance music.

Thornton's latest single, "I Depend On Me," was released on 10/2/2018 and will be available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Beatport and Google Play Music.

Kashif Graham is the Outreach Librarian for Religion and Theology at the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Spanish from CUNY Lehman College and received a Master of Arts in Church Ministry from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Cleveland, TN. He will graduate this May from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Master of Science in Information Sciences.

Stephanie Shapiro established Dance Well NY in 2008; as she started teaching Hustle & Swing in the spring of 2008 after 8 years of training. She added Ballroom to her list of expertise with a teacher training program and tested in Medalist Exams of main figures.  She LOVES teaching.  Her job, career, life is bringing the joy to others through movement of their body.  Her claim to success is teaching choreography to newer dancers and to her wedding couples.  2 out of 9 wedding couples continue on with her with private lessons for fun. She hopes to continue dancing and teaching well into her 90's.

Her first love and what she is going to dedicate the rest of her life to is dancing... teaching others how to move and enjoy themselves on the dance floor... She states, “Dancing keeps you young and happy, what better life goal could one have?!”
