In Kuala Lumpur i was introduced to DJ RaySoo (http://www.myspace.com/raysoomusic), a self confessed fan of German electronic music since the age of 14. He seemed to know more about some artists from my hometown than myself. He is also an award winning, brilliant, compelling DJ who invited me to play his "Hotel Scandalos" night at the Zouk club - one of the ecstatic highlights of the trip. I managed to hook him up with one of his actual idols - Losoul (http://www.myspace.com/losoul1996) from Frankfurt. Peter Kremeier, as his passport says, has been a reliable name in twisted and funky electronic house tracks since the mid-nineties, with a stripped-down trademark sound that is full of raw emotion and hypnotic micro-mechanisms. Together they delivered the freaky clubtrack "Following A Melody" and a calmer piece called "Metroworks" in which the kickdrum never kicks in, even though you anticipate it all the time.

Following a Melody - Losoul & RaySoo

Next i went to Manila, the capital of the Philippines. The colonial history of this country was more Spanish-American dominated - less lemongrass, more pork belly. There are people who say that the Philippines really are a Latin American country that fell on the wrong side of the planet. No wonder one of the guys i chose for the project is called Malek Lopez. With his even more unconventionally named partner Noel de Brackinghe he runs the project Rubber Inc, following a live-oriented approach to electronic music, between techno, breakbeat, drum & bass and downbeat. These two expreienced producers and technical trouble-shooters were vistited by the like-minded Gebruder Teichmann. Andi and Hannes are two very respected producers and DJs now from Berlin who won cultural awards in their hometown of Regensburg, and who now run the legendary label "Festplatten". These are people who are willing and able to jam anytime, to improvise and to eliminate feedback loops - open minded musicians, perfect for "The Plate". When the four of them met in Cologne in the summer of 2007, it clicked immediately. Visiting Manila just a few weeks later the Teichmann brothers and their Rubber hosts created the underground electro track "Four".

Four - Gebruder Teichmann & Rubber Inc

For the next character in the picture it took a longer trip - Jamie Lloyd is based in Sydney, a place with a vibrant, diverse and highly post-modern electronic scene that stands up to any international comparison. Jamie Lloyd combines modern laptop-live techniques with the flair of a traditional singer/songwriter. His tracks often have a folky vibe, but always electronically enhanced, tweaked as we say. Very stylish music, just like the one from Trickski, a Berlin based group of two who works within the famous Sonar Kollektiv energy field, covering the dirty, organic house side there. The combination of all these talents led to the beautiful "Maybe" track on which acoustic guitar and drums are sent echoing through the digital space and on which Jamie's girlfriend Becky, sings.
