@casbah-73 has been very much following his own path over the last few years with seriously tasty releases on Gliterbox, Boogie Angst and Lovemonk. Crafting exciting modern disco he's an artist who is definitely turning all the right heads as well as filling dancefloors to the brim all over the globe.

His latest release see's him back on @Lovemonk for a double header 7" / digital release Doing Our Own Thing / To be Free and to top it all off Lovemonk have brought in none other than disco legend Dimitri From Paris to give his inimitable French touch to Doing Our Own Thing.

‘Dolce far niente’ is the second single taken from Saint Malo’s forthcoming debut album, a bright and playful track built on a captivating combination of light percussion, synths, ukulele and handclaps. Featuring an evocative Theremin-like melody, Javier Jiménez (aka Saint Malo) describes it as “a mix between elevator music and a song announcing the arrival of summer”, where echoes of Raymond Scott and Isao Tomita resound beautifully.

Martin Buscaglia is the Uruguayan singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer for carnival and film, and producer who is a key figure in the Southern Cone contemporary music scene.  His chameleon like approach to music fuses Latin flavours with psychedelic grooves. In 2006 he released his highly acclaimed full-length album “El Evangelio Según Mi Jardinero” on Lovemonk which has since become one of Uruguay’s most iconic long players with its outstanding fusion of Latin psychedelia, funk, tropicalism and Candombe.  Martín has recorded and played with a wide range of Latin artists like Jorge Drexler, Arnaldo Antunes, Julieta Venegas, Leo Masliah, Jaime Roos, Juana Molina, Jackson Browne and Os Mulheres Negras. 
 
“Cerebro, Orgasmo, Envidia & Sofia” is lifted from the album and is a riotous, psychedelic Latin-funk anthem that features Arnaldo Antunes. Madrid label Lovemonk releases this much adored track on 7” vinyl for the very first time, with Ubiquity Records stalwart Bosq on board to provide a perfectly matched remix. The Boston born Medellin based musical fusionist resisted the temptation to bump it up to 120 bpm as he thinks that the world needs more midtempo dancefloor treats. We couldn’t agree with him more! Here Bosq adds his magical touch and a tad of Cumbia to bring maximum pleasure to summer dancefloors.

The weekend was fast approaching, the release from the day to day struggles of the working week would be euphoric and fuelled by decadent dancing in dark rooms where smoke hung thick and people mingled beneath the glow of a rich, warm red light.

Things weren't so bad after all. He was feeling alright.

As he entered the club he took off his coat, placed it promptly upon the old leather chair perched in the corner of the room and joined the throb of people on the dancefloor.

He shuffled a little. He was moving.

Keita Sano teams up with Sauce81 for a dynamic collaboration which reminds us why dance music is fun. Disco tinged energy, not too fast and within enough funk to keep things bumping for a while.

SLIVERS OF YOU remix by Secret Circuit

Portugal's esteemed producer Tiago dropped the beautiful and aspirational Sea Power &amp; Change EP last year, and now the ESP Institute is delighted to deliver its counterpart, the Remixed EP. The Soft Rocks gang takes the eerie Strangefruit for a ride with an 80s dubby approach on side A, speeding it up slightly and throwing in a smack of a snare, only to be followed by a Secret Circuit (Eddie Ruscha of Laughing Light of Plenty) version of Wild Combination that juxtaposes wobbly synths and guitars in a spaghetti-western vibe. All is gravy once the record flips and we sink into the Jonny Nash (of Sombrero Galaxy) remix of Yesterday Is Dead. This is one of those remixes you can't link to the original no matter how hard you try, but why try when what you have is such a melted masterpiece on your hands? Everything Nash touches is gold.


A2 - Wild Combination (Secret Circuit Remix)

Following last years acclaimed Curse of Soft Rocks album, we're invited to revisit said masterpiece from an alternative entry — a robust compilation of remixes. The tracklisting follows its predecessor verbatim, however every track is re-contextualized so wildly that we're left with a beautifully obtuse yet complimentary rendering. The personnel employed vary in style and technique drastically, but such is the ethos of Soft Rocks, and furthermore the ESP Institute. At the end of the day, we implore you to shut up and listen.

Lovemonk is a small but very sunny and eclectic label from Madrid. When it comes to put an, err, label on the label’s sound things become complicated. In times when everybody seems to be specialising in something, Lovemonk touches a lot of styles, and many different styles at that. 

Its artists cover a wide range of styles from the most club-oriented electronica to the prettiest folk, with everything in between, although the most common sounds in our catalogue come from black roots.

Everything fits under the motto, “Discos Buenos.”
