Oddysee 024 | 'When We Dance Again' by Alex Kassian

Every so often the universe delivers one of those special parties, the ones that stick with you and send shivers down your spine bassline. A few months ago in a brief recess between interstate lockdowns, we had the absolute pleasure of playing the closing set at the Bridge courtyard for our friends at Lovejoy. We woke up at 6am, had a 7/11 coffee and a tequila and headed straight into the rave for a 9am set time(!!!). The pure rapture that ensued thereafter was captured via this recording. We originally weren't going to share it, but as we and our Sydney dance community family are both currently locked down, we thought it would be nice to relive the moment together, from our lounge rooms to yours.

Panorama Bar resident and Love On The Rocks label head Paramida joins us for the 92nd edition of the Phonica Mix Series. 

Since moving to Berlin in 2010, Paramida has since become a key figure in the cities ever-expanding electronic music scene. In 2014 she launched her Love On The Rocks label which has seen releases from Massimiliano Pagliara, Telephones, Fantastic Man, Elles, Violet, Alex Kassian and more.  

Having spent five years working at Oye Records, Paramida is certainly no stranger to digging. Each of her varied DJ sets brings a new beacon of pleasure and surprise. Blending proto-house to trance, percussive gems with high-energy techno, Italian dream house and irresistible new beat. Sounds that are very much reflected in this here recording. Paramida is a breath of fresh air on the Berlin scene. Her sound and style goes against the dark, mono-chromatic, machine made music of most of the city and instead heads in a more colourful and Balearic direction. She pushes a bright and emotional sound, and runs the Love on the Rocks label with a similar aim. She calls herself ‘Berlin’s most hated’ but surely isn’t, instead she’s picking up ever more fans because of her “discofied tropical leanings” and passion for unusual house music. 

And you can expect plenty of that in her podcast. It soundtracks a slow awakening with retro synths drawing you into, and jumbled grooves ranging from dreamy to sunset in style. The overall vibe is one a late eighties house party in Ibiza with plenty of curveballs and moments of subtle euphoria all included. It’s refreshing alternative to the Berlin sound the world knows and loves, and is a timely and welcome edition to our own series.
