We're excited to welcome someone very near and dear to us (and a FAW alum) to FAST_CAST, SF / Bay Area-grown, Boston-based artist Eugenia (@eugeniadj). Lock into an hour of groove, emotion and phenomenal selections.

Make sure to check out Eugenia's array of incredible mixes, including her HÖR and Boiler Room sets from 2022, plus her genre-non conforming, ambient-inspired mix series series "The Shape of Memory," via experimental label Ghunghru.

Eugenia cut her teeth playing local clubs and throwing DIY events in the San Francisco and East Bay. Her energetic mixing style can be defined as bright, tender, and a highly dynamic, jumping across many genres of dance music wrapped in a lush atmosphere -- with her signature touch of sass. Eugenia is now based in Boston, where she plays with local queer collective Boudoir. Fresh from her sets at HÖR Berlin, Fast at Work in Los Angeles and Boiler Room in Boston, she continues to blossom further and curate her own sound.

Every now and then I hear a song in a mix or in a club that I really like, eventually manage to Shazam it or find out what it is, only to listen to it back at home and end up not liking it very much. This is often because it was played at a different speed or a really specific context the first time I heard it. I think a lot of the time things can sound so much better or worse in the right/wrong context so I just decided to only play tunes at completely the wrong speed (at least +-10 bpm). I’m not sure if this says anything of any meaning but I think it’s a kind of interesting concept. In theory if someone listened to this mix and hadn’t heard any of the songs before they wouldn’t realise they’re all at the wrong tempo and would hopefully still enjoy it (fingers crossed). Deepest apologies to any producers I have upset by playing their music completely incorrectly.

Floorless - best crew about, only good vibes at any of their events. Had some of the best times of my life at the festival and met some of the best people through it. Bonus shoutout to Small Talk at @corsica_studios which, it must be said, is pretty lit.

@horstartsandmusicfestival was unbelievably good, seemed like so much attention to detail went into it and it had an actual sense of care towards the punters (unlike the majority of UK festivals). Programming/stage design was absolutely spot on.

Maybe biased because it’s from a mate but yeah this was just really really sick. V intricate and pretty flawless (lol) mixing.

I think it’d be very fun to be good at using one of those talk box/vocoder type things - infinite amusement. I’ve often said I’d love to just talk like that 24/7, it’d make everything I say sound extremely cool.

There have been loads tbh and I wouldn’t say this is definitively the best buuuttttt I’m gonna go with @optimo-music at @houghton-festival either in the first year or the second year. Just couldn’t believe what was going on, I think both sets were 6 hours long and I’d just never heard anyone do what they did. Chucking in little samples left right and centre and mixing songs together I couldn’t even fathom. Like how was I hearing AC/DC mixed with Abba and Barington Levy mixed with gabber but all done pretty flawlessly. 

+ 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓶𝓸𝓼𝓽 𝓹𝓵𝓪𝔂𝓮𝓭 𝓽𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓴? 
Can’t be certain on this but definitely could be Mood II Swing - Ohh. Just really really good deep house, hits the spot every single time.

Low Ceilings, great sound, good lights (but still dark), smoke machine, 2 or 3 on the lineup so everyone is  playing at least 2 hours. All your mates in there.

Monfreaq - DJ Set - Everyday Coffee - Love Project

With a passion for all things deep, dark, funky and fast, Monfreaq hit the ground running after learning to DJ while living in the Netherlands and being surrounded by the thriving Dutch techno scene. Since coming home to Melbourne, she has played along with local and international talents at venues such as Radar, Glamorama, Boney and Xe54, as well as a few raves in the hidden corners and warehouses of the city. Her sets encompass a wide range of music from different genres and periods, weaving together elements of UK dance music and Detroit influenced house, techno and electro. Recorded at the sold-out DJ Koze show, we were lucky enough to secure Monfreaq's set from the Darklove side room takeover for our next Novelcast.
