Modular synth master Richard Devine’s music moves like a slightly unhinged force, in rapid clicks and metallic thrums or funk addled scattering beats. An Atlanta-based producer with full length releases on Warp, Schematic, Sublight and Detroit Underground in the past 15 years, as well as an accomplished sound designer and maker of synthesizer kits (among soundtracks and samples, he’s built an expansion pack for Moog Music’s Animoog app), Devine made huge professional inroads in the digital realm, yet recently felt called to the modular and analog in his own music. Constantly reconfiguring his own hardware systems, Devine creates music by processing layer after layer of sounds derived from hip hop, pop, field recordings and electronic tracks; and in 2013 released his own official sample library, The Electronic Music Manuscript, through Sony Creative Software. Performing live, he’s equipped with an enviable arsenal of sounds and the ability to manipulate them to his experimental liking, constructing a sonic experience that’s never the same twice. MUTEK 2015 marked Devine’s first live modular set in Canada and the premiere of his “Disturbances” live patch, custom built for organic on-the-fly songwriting, from abstract ambient compositions to rhythmic bombardments.

An Umbral (Threshold in spanish) is a limit between two states. It’s the frontier between sound and silence, inside and outside, light and shadow, pleasure and pain. The umbral is an intangible, incorporeal line defined by the perception of a subject that hovers on the passage between two antagonistic states. The umbral can be jumped, defied and it's in this almost ludic experimentation that errors are produced. Unexpected, mysterious events and ruptures on perception´s continuum that enrich the universe of the perceived. 

Enrique Casal aka Qik presents Umbral, a nocturnal album that had it’s own ripening process, nourished from the silence of the night. Pushed by an experimentalist approach, the ten tracks on the record were born from a compulsive search and shaping of combined acoustic and electronic sounds, field recordings, material from audiovisual live performances and analogue and digital synths. The result is an intimate collection that explores the limits between dub techno, ambient and sound experimentation. 

A milestone in Qik´s musical career, Umbral marks a major leap forward in the artist´s musical vision, one that has mutated over his 10-year presence in the electronic music scene in Argentina. A unique figure known for the duality of his intense techno live sets and his noise-driven experimental performances such as the ones carried out alongside his audiovisual collective Tekhne A/V.

Second Woman is the collaborative project featuring Turk Dietrich of Belong and Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv. 

Josh and Turk have been friends for over 17 years, having met in New Orleans in the late ’90s through mutual friend and future collaborator, Charlie Cooper. The duo have been working on music together on and off since that time.

The concept of Second Woman began with the idea of taking tropes from footwork, dub, house, and techno, and twisting these ideas into something kaleidoscopically liberated from the grid. 
Their work first materialized with two LP’s and an EP on John Elliott and Peter Rehberg’s Spectrum Spools. 

Second Woman tweak the perception of time and space within the audio field into something ASMR-inducing and ultimately satisfying to listen to. Both Josh and Turk experience ASMR in response to certain rhythms and sounds, and effort was made to incorporate these triggers into the music, hopefully for other people to experience as well. 

With Instant / Apart, Second Woman present their complete signature sound as well as a new, more measured dimension to their work.

A portrayal of Mekas’ latest ambient excursions, Entropy is his first solo album, and it marks a highlight in the career of a producer whose artistry continuously reshapes its standing ground. This time in search of more introspective depths of his music, the album reflects a side of Mekas that he has been keen on exploring for some time now, bringing to light new layers of his sonorous identity.
