LOW-KI

Hailing from Montreal, LOW-KI is the blending of two complementary forces: Byron and Ella Grave. Each pulling from their respective decade-long musical backgrounds and endless artistic influences – with Byron leaning more towards synth-based music, hip hop and progressive and Ella representing dubstep, drum’n'bass and trip hop - they have managed to blend seemingly opposing components to craft a uniquely atmospheric dark electronic lo-fi sound.

LOW-KI's first full-length album entitled SONGS IN THE KEY OF LOW (November 30, 2012) was created using the bare essentials in old and modern recording techniques; basic sequencers, synthesizers, drum machines, percussion, field recordings and non-musical objects. This collection of nine songs (Fight, Limit, Move, Bottle, Descent, Wolf, Bridge, Hoodlum and Possibility) reflects the urban diversity from which it stems in surprising new sonic directions, while still remaining accessible, rhythmic and raw. Each note and lyric on this album is the fruit of pure and free collaboration between these two well-matched co-producers who are finally putting their extensive experience as local musicians together with the sole objective of creating music they love.

LOW-KI are currently rehearsing with a live band which will incorporate Byron (synths, effects pedals and background vocals), Ella Grave (vocals), Geordie Robbins (drums and percussion), Phil White (synths, bass and sound design) and guest artists, a live visual artist and other elements to make the live LOW-KI experience as memorable as possible. Music videos and short films are also in development and pre-production.

LOW-KI

À l'image de Montréal, LOW-KI est le résultat d’un mélange de deux forces complémentaires : Byron et Ella Grave. S’inspirant tous les deux de leurs dix ans d’expérience musicale et d’une myriade d’influences artistiques – avec Byron qui se retrouve plutôt du côté de la musique à base de synthés, du hip-hop et du progressif et Ella qui représente plutôt les scènes dubstep, drum’n’bass et trip-hop – le duo a réussi à fusionner plusieurs éléments contradictoires pour créer un son électronique lo-fi atmosphérique et noir.

Le premier album de LOW-KI intitulé SONGS IN THE KEY OF LOW (30 novembre 2012) a été conçu à l’aide des composantes de base en matière de techniques d’enregistrement du passé et du présent; séquenceurs, synthétiseurs, boites à rythmes, percussions, prises de son de terrain et objets non musicaux. Cette collection de neuf chansons (Fight, Limit, Move, Bottle, Descent, Wolf, Bridge, Hoodlum et Possibility) reflète la diversité urbaine qui lui a donné naissance à travers de nouvelles confections sonores surprenantes qui demeurent accessibles, dynamiques et évocatrices. Chacune des notes et des paroles qui figurent sur cet album est le fruit d’une collaboration pure et libre entre ces deux coproducteurs bien jumelés, qui en sont finalement à joindre leurs parcours en tant que musiciens locaux, dans le seul but de créer une musique qui les font vibrer.

LOW-KI est présentement en répétition avec un band live composé de Byron (synthés, pédales d’effets et choriste), Ella Grave (voix), Geordie Robbins (batterie et percussions) et Phil White (synthés, basse et design sonore), en plus de quelques artistes invités, un VJ et d’autres éléments connexes pour faire de l’expérience LOW-KI en direct une des plus mémorables possible! Des vidéoclips et des courts métrages sont également en processus d’élaboration et de préproduction.
