Subtile neo classic and ambient jazz from Berlin. Composer, sax player and bandleader Ralph Heidel is one of the most talked about young neo classic artists in Germany. The new album on Berlin’s Kryptox Records is coming out in summer and this is the first pre-single.
AVI describes Ralph Heidel's musical world in a nutshell. An interesting polyrhythmic piano idea, grows bigger and bigger. Heidel's warm alto saxophone tone gets merged with electronic percussion and synth layers. With introducing the strings in the bridge, the main theme gets epic and destructed with distorted drums.
This track is full of surprises, it begins with a neo classical sound but with a more modern jazzy approach. Through the saxophone, strings and the electronics it gets very concrete and beautiful, but genre wise it gets more complex and fresh.

Hot off the release of his acclaimed “Isles In Indigo” LP, Denver, CO-based producer and visual artist RUMTUM (aka John Hastings) makes a swift return to Bastard Jazz with a remix for fellow Denverites Ramakhandra. Ramakhandra is a band that creates a mind bending fusion of future jazz and hypnotically free psychedelia, all with a rhythmic throughline that combines seemingly disparate instruments, influences, and sounds into a magically cohesive experience. Having created artwork for remixes of the band in the past, RUMTUM takes “Haku,” originally an 11-minute exploratory jam from their self-titled album, turning it into a stunning atmospheric piece that utilises the band’s signature harp sound to full extent, alongside whispers of vocal samples that float atop new bass and drum lines. The rich soul of the original remains, but the remix places it in an entirely new context.

Ramakhandra’s “Haku (RUMTUM Remix)” is out on Bastard Jazz June 3rd.

The Kraut Jazz Futurism compilation shows what's cookin’ in the new German Jazz scene. Young German bands and a few of the international musicians working in Berlin now. Fresh artists that combine Jazz, Kraut Rock, Afro, Hip Hop and Electronica in a new way.
The first part of the compilation came out last year and was described by The Wire as  „… a re-drawn map of underground Berlin. Refreshingly new, eccentric, badassed and sometimes funny.“ 
This second part goes further. Similar to Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here compilation, where he shows mainly the new hip english Jazz artists, on Kraut Jazz Futurism Kryptox records head honcho Mathias „Kapote“ Modica puts together what’s hot in the new club jazz scene in Germany. And there is a lot cookin’ in Berlin right now. Kraut Jazz Futurism comes out on Kryptox. Sublabel of Gomma & Toy Tonics records.
