We began recording our third full-length, but life took us in different directions, and we stopped at an EP.  These songs focus on John Wilkes Booth and are meant to tell their stories separately and as a whole.

These songs are mixed but not mastered.  A mastered version of "Abraham" appears on Thinker Thought Records' Tenth Anniversary compilation, so go get that.

For our second acoustic EP, we decided to record at a studio, so we booked a night with our friend, Scott.  We tracked everything live, with vocals, banjo, guitar, and drums comprising one take, and accordion, piano, and pump organ comprising the other.

Three of the four songs on this recording were played to their full, electric glory on our final EP.  "Queen Esther" was one of the first songs that we wrote with LRL, so it was nice to bring that one back.

"Bloodletting," "How To Win," and "The Queen Asleep With Me" were recorded over our first couple of years in San Francisco, in the apartment where we all lived.  "Bloodletting" had been written before we moved across the country and stands as one of the oldest LRL songs.  All of these songs were played live for a while, but fell by the wayside for this reason or that.  

The version of "You're Alive" is an alternate mix done by our friend Jon Bellona, who recorded our first album, "Weight of Nations," as part of his final project for audio engineering school.  

The Zilla Studios demo of "West Texas" was recorded by our friend, Nigel, shortly after the song was written.  It originally appeared on the Thread II compilation.

"Little Brothers" was recorded during the "Dog's Hymns" session, but we decided it didn't fit the album.  It is unmastered.

"That's When I Reach For My Revolver" is a song by Mission of Burma that we, and about a billion other bands, covered.  We recorded this during the session for the final EP, but it never got further than the rough mix.  We had toyed with the idea of doing an entire set of Mission of Burma covers, but only got so far as to cover this and "Academy Fight Song" (which ruled).

We recorded this on the KRFC (Ft. Collins) program "Live at Lunch" at the beginning of our final fall tour.  Thanks to Beth Malmskog for always being a great host and for putting up with our hijinks.

Gunfighter's Afternoon/The Duke (KRFC 09.09)

A gentleman that we met in Ft. Collins, CO named Quentin Oliver sent us this version of "Queen Esther."  He recorded viola over our track and it turned out really cool.  No one has ever done that for one of our tracks, and I think it's pretty special.
