Having the CBC spend an hour profiling Lowfish in 2002 was one of the most important (to me) things that happened in my music career. I found this on a DAT recently and thought I'd share...

Brave New Waves was a Canadian radio program which aired on CBC Stereo, later known as CBC Radio 2, from 1984 to 2007. Airing weeknights from midnight to 4 a.m., the show profiled alternative and indie music and culture. The show was once described by longtime host Brent Bambury as "explaining fringe culture to a comfortable mainstream audience,"[1] and by his successor Patti Schmidt as "invented with an idea of what John Peel's show was, but without ever having heard it.

This track is all Jupiter-6 fed through a Drawmer 1960 tube compressor.

Lowfish - "Quarter Bass" (demo)

This is the full bonkers version of "It Has Much Grain" produced in 1997 – an edit of which occurred on the "AlteredStatesOfAmerica" compilation alongside Solvent, David Kristian, Matmos and others. 

Released on Jon Tye's Lo Recordings label in 1997/1998 (on both CD and a limited edition promo vinyl 12" record) the version that was released was edited down (by Jon Tye himself) from this "full" version.

I was pretty self-assured back then and thought nothing of submitting a 14-minute distorted-synth freak-out as a "track" for a compilation...

"Quadra" is a Lowfish track produced around 1996 and released in 2010 on "Memories Are Uncertain Friends" (Suction Records SUCTION021)

I named it "Quadra" – no shame in it – as I was in Autechre-inspired mode and as such, all things needed to be slathered in Alesis Quadraverb. 

Gear nerd details = this is mostly samples from a Roland S-750 sampler + TR-808 and a Moog Prodigy borrowed from Solvent, all sequenced by a newly acquired Alesis MMT-8.
