It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal neoliberalist mould, we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Regardless of one’s point of reference, we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

This month we have invited @midorihirano to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero-patriarchal systems of oppression.

Midori Hirano is a musician, composer and producer. She uses predominantly piano, with subtle electronic processing and field recordings. She has released nine solo albums so far including the records under her other moniker MimiCof, in which she explores the realm of experimental music and detailed rhythmic patterns, combined with an idea of drawing melodic shapes and harmonies.

'What about... podcast' by Publishing Station is part of our "get-together" series, a showcase of projects we like that look at popular music and sounds from various angles.

"What do we like about podcast" has been a question in the back of our minds (and ears) since Publishing Station celebrated one-year anniversary. As we could easily face and look at all the content online, whether visual or audio-based, the wonder behind why we chose this medium remains. Words related to care, collectivity, and bodily experience float as me and Marta video call for the umpteenth time in order to put forward these reflections in an actual podcast. Being far away from one another but alined to work on PS has been the most demanding task yet it set a very special boundary that allowed us to flourish as best friends and collaborators. To deliver to the listeners our very intimate and sometimes non-linear thoughts the podcast takes the form of an internal monologue. Its hesitation and pondering sounds want to caress and stimulate the listener to join the wonder while the music retraces the concealed side of PS. A collection of what at first we considered to be discarded tracks. Those forgotten melodies that could have had potential, sooner or later. And here we are, hopping from one episode to the other, with different rhythms, moods, and genres, creating one of our own. And that is exactly what we like about it.
