Twelve: A number that conjures myriad connotations. For most of us it’s the essential measurement of black gold, the source of mystery that can only be extracted through a fine stylus. For others, it’s a way of measuring half days and dozens, zodiac signs or apostles. For Sorrow, it’s his latest EP.

Five stark, soul-arresting narratives deep, once again the Bristol beatsmith compounds his distinctive icy, introspective signature with rich detail, emotion and cavernous shadowy dynamics. His first full solo release of 2017, and his first EP on Inspected in over two years, ‘The Twelve’ follows a run of critical excursions, cameos and collaborations on the likes of Fent Plates and White Peach and continues to build on his unique status within the electronic game.

From the opening house subversions and foggy, mystical humanised textures of ‘Want U Back’ right through to the final smouldering beat abstractions and soft groans of the breath-taking title track finale, the entire EP is a trip into Sorrow’s innermost soul. In between we’re hit by the two-step trickery of ‘Reverie’, the heavy haze of ‘Frumoasa’ and the unabashed slo-mo gully of ‘Sheol’, each chapter telling its own Sorrowful tale, alluring you and spurring you to further corners of your thoughts… conjuring myriad connotations, like all good sources of mystery should.

Since Plastician's blistering Wavepool 2 compilation last year, many have been wondering how long the wait would be for some brand new music from the man himself.

Fast forward almost a year, and he's ready to drop 7 brand new tracks on Terrorhythm, in what is his biggest solo release of new music on the label since his critically acclaimed debut album "Beg To Differ" in 2007.

"I wanted to pick up where Beg To Differ left off", Chris Reed tells. Across 7 tracks, his Grime & Dubstep roots are still audible, with a healthy influx of Wave influenced numbers to boot, this really does feel like a view into the mind of Plastician some 11 years on from Beg To Differ, minus the now legendary shellings of Skepta & co.

Whilst the Grime vocals are noticeably missing from this outing, Reed explains this was out of choice this time: "I'm sat on 4 or 5 vocal tracks as well as a couple of straight up Grime instrumentals. I've toyed with the idea of adding them for months on end, but the energy was just not quite correct next to the bits I've stuck on".

Plastician tells us the Grime bits are to be held for their own release in the near future following "Overdue", an E.P. named due to the lateness of the release, as well as an ode to his two children who were born beyond full-term pregnacy.

Four brand new signees, spanning hidden and established talents in their respective scenes, reimagine DET’s 2019 garage EP ‘Ocha’ on VALE. The release opens with Kori’s emotive rethink of ‘Ocha’, laden with rich atmospheres and beautiful subtleties eliciting a stirring cinematic piece. Energy and danceability defines the shocking remix of ‘Homie’ by the legendary Skope, peaking with an abundance of irresistible grooves and tier one synth design. The vastly underrated ‘Maynix’ expertly reconstructs ‘Ocha’ into an elegant mixture of IDM ideologies with garage dancefloor readiness, creating an imitable composition that will persist time. The EP closes with an incredibly seamless remix of ‘Homie’ by the 140 bpm mastermind FLO, achieving an unparalleled deep and reverberating track that sounds almost destined to accompany the original vocals. With the DET Ocha Remix EP, VALE sets the tone for 2020 and continues to raise the bar for cross-genre experimentation and releases.
