There was only one version of this in the end, which is a shame, as a reworked version would have sounded much better.

The dead giveaways lie in how the main guitar line is developing as the song progresses. From something utterly basic, it becomes a touch more fiddly.

Also that I am making up the lyrics as I go along is fairly obvious - the only surprise is that it took three verses for me to trip over my tongue.
Again, it is also obvious that I cannot sing for shit.

Dark Times

Released in 2007 on the e.p 'Seventeen', "Jake's Lament" is one of the tracks that I am genuinely proud of recording.

A mixture of electronics, live banjo and piano, it is probably one of the few "complete" songs that I laid down. If only it had been properly mixed though...

Rather than being a song as such, "Some Cars Are Faster Than Others" was a full set in itself that came to be for a mini-festival shindig I pulled together in 2005.

Coming in at around 23 minutes, "Some Cars..." pulls six pieces together, including the opening song 'TV Sets', which would quickly become a regular closing song in live sets.

The closing song of the set, 'Dead in the Water' is way, way too long and overly ambitious in terms of instrumentation, but is one of my favourite LPX songs.

'TV Sets', 'Harbour', 'Whether Weather Buoy', 'Channelling Thoughts', 'Die Hard Habits are Hard to Break' and 'Dead in the Water'.

The original version of "Tension" - although there is not much different from the 'Experiments in Dub and HiFi' version - went down well live.

A progressive piece, the song ticked over, as layers and layers were added and removed throughout.
Attempts to perform it live were never successful, as it proved almost impossible to manage the delay in time with the rest of the song.

My earliest "proper" attempt at recording vocals, despite my lack of ability, 'Designer Drugs' was a solid attempt back in 2003.

The verses are very loosely connected, as the story tells of protagonist tripping.
One of my first attempts at overlapping tracks, 'Designer Drugs' was a worthwhile, if very flawed piece.

Originally recorded by Cork-based electronic musician, I turned into an overly long dub mix.

One of those occasions when my brother commented that I had been listening to 'Sandinista!' by The Clash far too often.

Why I Set Myself On Fire (Remix)

Closing the e.p. 'Seventeen', "When The Gods Punish Me" was an attempt at a heartfelt piano and string-tinged pull of the senses.

While interesting, it never quite grabbed in the way it should have, but the intent is obvious.

A mistake planted an extra song after "When The Gods Punish Me" during mixing.
After a few minutes wondering what it was, I discovered it was a slowed down recording of "Seventeen" (approximately one-quarter speed), so I edited it down, reversed it and had a little extra fun.

When The Gods Punish Me

From 'Experiments in Dub and HiFi', I had always imagined this song being played out to visuals of ping-pong balls bouncing up and down.

In reality, it is several vibraphones, an upright bass and a drum that keeps this ticking over. When listening to it now, I can't help but think how awful the bass sounds.

The title comes from an inscription in the liner notes of Radiohead's 'OK Computer' album.

Having long since become tired of synth-sounds, "Chased Through A Forest By A Maniac" was one of many attempts to expand my horizons through samples of instruments from across the world, especially Persia and parts of Africa.

Opening the final LPX e.p., 'Fashion / Not Fashion', "Seasons" was a song that had being lying around for some time, but had never quite got right and, in hindsight, this version isn't quite nailed either.

Which is a shame. I hated recording this e.p. - everything was so rushed and half prepared and as such, I've never been completely happy with it.

Again some dry vocals, but that could also be counted as boredom.

Seasons

Like "Seasons", "Morse Code Murderers" is a victim of not enough effort in recording when the song should have received better.

A late dub effort that grew over time, it was often well received in live performances.

An idea to attempt a slightly quirky track with odd sounding instrumentation that didn't fully come together.

Have played with the idea of one day layering vocals in this, but the synths need to change badly.

Mindful

The final track on "Experiments in Dub and HiFi" came about when messing around with a broken guitar.

Rather than playing anything in particular, I screwed around with shattered sounds produced and pitch settings to create this ambient finisher.

Irish solo electronic musician who recorded from 2002 to 2007 and sporadically until 2012.

Works revolve around experimental sounds, dub, ambient, classical and film music.

The songs here are often overlong, under-developed and not particularly enticing to the ear. Or so I have been told repeatedly.

Following a show in 2004, one critic proudly proclaimed; "LPX is Leigh O'Gorman, his guitar and laptop against the world and let's hope the world kicks the shit out of him."
