This is the last set I played at Watergate Berlin before the club closed its doors at the end of 2024, after 22 years of shaping the city’s nightlife. I had the honour of being a resident for nearly 7 years. Watergate gave me the freedom to explore and evolve my sound and the platform to fully express myself through music. This set is a little different from what I usually play—but like always, it comes straight from the heart and with pure joy.

Wednesday morning was something else. DJ Tennis curated a full day of back-to-back sets on the Robot Heart bus, calling it Tennis Doubles. The highlight was the sunrise set with Simon, aka Bonobo. It was Simon’s first Burn and the rest is history. 🎾🌞❤️

In DJ Tennis’ words, “Robot Heart is family. When they asked me to curate the Wednesday lineup, I knew I had to bring Simon for his first Burn. That sunrise was pure magic playing side by side with an artist I deeply admire, as the desert came alive, felt like it was always meant to be. After more than a decade here, the Burn still takes my breath away like no other place.”

The long-awaited Boiler Room debut from UK rave legends, Underworld, live from London. 

Few acts in electronic music hold the weight of history in the same way Underworld do. 

Surging from the late 80s synthpop into the UK rave scene, Underworld reimagined the tangibility of the genre, with an undeniable legacy that lives on to this day.

So I left home the other night – bad vibes, negative energy. Trying to shift my focus back to something positive, I decided to return to the studio. I already had a little setup prepared and wanted to record a new mix anyway… then this happened:

Out of the blue, after about 20 minutes of checking some tunes I wanted to include (I definitely wanted Ernestos / Jonatan Bäckelie’s latest gem in there), the whole thing just took off. I hadn’t prepared all the tracks or checked the transitions beforehand – it was just a rough pool of tracks that jumped out at me that night and somehow caught its spirit.

It’s probably not my tightest mix in terms of perfect sync or harmonic layering, but it feels like one of the mixes that goes deeper into myself, my soul, my world. Without planning it, I ended up picking tunes by artists I’m happy to know or at least to have met in life, on or off stage. I remember that radio show with Robert Owens in Frankfurt, the nights with Luke & Jamie (Jimpster) in Frankfurt and Madrid, and of course our Motorcitysoul collab with Jonatan aka Ernesto.

The 2011 Deetron tune was (and still is) one of my signature tracks this summer. At first I didn’t want to include it – felt too obvious. But this slammer literally forced its way into the mix on the fly. The tune convinced me to take it along for the journey. Thanx, Sam (Deetron)!

So here we go… a short journey and fusion of house, techno, soul, and a touch of jazz. One hour of a very special mix. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.
