In this lecture, Dr Amy Harrison from Birkbeck, University of London, aims to share findings from the field of positive psychology on the science of happiness. It also explores what makes us happy and how we lead happier lives.

Psychology has tended to focus on exploring people’s problems and difficulties, looking at what has gone wrong in people’s lives rather than their resources, strengths and what might be going well.

Positive psychology is a field of psychological science which has sought to promote and develop research into the factors that make people happy, the impact of focusing on strengths, having an optimistic outlook on our wellbeing, and exploring the small things that we can all do to boost our levels of happiness.

Our entire lives we search for meaning, for answers for something to show us which way to go, a map drawn out just for us. Our moments of inspiration is the map. These are the markers, the landing points for us to explore. These blinks, or images that bring a song to our hearts are the gate keepers of our souls here to guide us in the exact direction we have been  fumbling around in the dark for. 
This inspiration that eked past our borders and thick brick walls has a great purpose. It has surpassed all of our defenses for it is holding great wealth cupped in its hands.
