LSM008 - Edëff

Luce grew up in France, listening to Balearic House, Trip-Hop and other electronic genres from the 90's and 00's. She fell in love with House music at an early age and further developed a taste for the more obscure styles when she moved to the UK in 2011. After experimenting with various music genres, she found her sound within the deeper and darker side of Techno.

Founder and Resident at Greenhouse Effect, a Techno and Tech House event based in Bristol, she has been working her way into the Bristol underground music scene; with recent performances at The Love Inn, No 51, and Basement 45. Her influences range from German Techno, Breakbeat, UK Bass and Acid House to name but a few and you can expect to hear these influences amalgamated into her performances. This up and coming selector is one to watch in the future.

For our 14th edition we have this little number from a Leeds local selector, Fried. Josh delivers a fusion of funk, soul and disco fundamentals brought forward with core elements of deep house and tech. In his words this creates a ‘deep, funky sound which is simply good fun to throw shapes to and works on today’s underground dance floor’. The Limit team have been taking Leeds by storm this past year after originally starting off in Huddersfield. Their parties effortlessly create a fun & friendly vibe, with Matt and a very talented set of residents bringing the party to life. Alongside this they’ve brought in some great bookings such as Harrison BDP & Beesmunt Soundsystem, and have some big parties lined up including their Boat Party on September 3rd followed by Mak & Pasteman b2b DJ Haus on the 27th. If you’ve been to any Limit nights in the past, you’ll know these aren’t to be missed.

Yorlig's mix demonstrates a showcase of Breakbeat and Electro from record labels such as Cultivated Electronics and CPU, which Yorlig draws a lot of inspiration from. Our latest mix comes Grassinoel, an experienced DJ who first turned onto the underground party scene via the legendary DiY and Smokescreen Sound System free parties in the early nineties. After several years out of the game Grassinoel is back on the scene and has recently landed a slot at Cloudspotting festival as well as various clubs in Nottingham. His guest mix is characteristic of his selection style, drawing on old school elements and tunes that Noel has been digging from back in the day combined with some deep nu-wave elements of today's dance-floor. Expect deep, funky vibes and lower BPM ranges to create a solid groove that brings the weekend that little bit closer. Enjoy!

Edëff Resident Mix 16.09.18

For our latest guest mix we have Downtown Disco co-founder Karen Ridley aka Miss Chief! Karen is an early 90s dancer who has always had an ear for tunes. She was a regular party goer in the progressive house scene and built up a vast collection of vinyl filled with tracks she ID’d from each night. 

2 years ago Karen rediscovered her love of music through the genre of Nu-Disco. The funky, fresh & exciting tracks she discovered from the likes of Late Nite Tuff Guy and Babert reignited her passion. It was then that she met Ian Ossia, who helped found Downtown Disco and taught Karen to mix

Karen & Ian then went on to create their brand from the ground up and threw one hell of a party at Mint with a stellar line-up of Late Nite Tuff Guy, Dr Packer & Babert. As fate would have it we have our good friends from Fortynine providing the 49th edition of our mix series! You’ll have seen their collective alias of Forrest Road Soundsystem on line-ups across Leeds & Huddersfield, but on this occasion we’re being treated to a special insight into the more personal tastes of each member of the team.  

First up we have Ben Moulson diving into his solo alias, April. A man with a love for quick tempos, gritty textures and uplifting melodies, which are stitched together seamlessly in this thunderous instalment. If you like what you hear be sure to keep your eyes peeled in 2020 for the launch of Ben’s new brand Chorus which will be focusing on bringing the UK’s best up & coming techno to the heart of Leeds!

For our 51st mix we welcome Sam Horton, an upcoming talent who has started to make a name for himself in 2019. He's had a strong year holding down residencies for Maple Avenue & Odos Events, as well as regular slots at Free Party & Pete Bromley's B2B Sessions in Stoke.

Sam has built on this with a selection of gigs in Leeds, of which he has a few lined up for 2020 so keep your eyes peeled for a chance to see him in action. His taste has leaned towards the more minimal side of House, which is demonstrated seamlessly in his addition to the series.

Our final guest mix of 2019 is an absolute belter from Elliot Holt. Elliot is the founder of the Leeds based event brand truelove., which situates itself regularly at Wire along with other venues in the city. Most recently truelove. hosted one of their best parties to date with HAAi and have an upcoming show with Axel Boman in February of next year. In the next few weeks Elliot will be playing for Natural Selection's New Years Eve party along with a show on Melodic Distraction radio as things move into the New Year.

Our 53rd edition comes from an emerging talent on the scene, George Harper. We have a feeling you'll be hearing a lot from George over the next few years, as his vast, diverse, genre-spanning knowledge at such a young age is a sure sign of things to come. This is made abundantly clear in his contribution to the series, which is one of our favourite mixes to date! 

George has recently founded Chorus with his fellow techno-enthusiast Ben Moulson. Their debut event will take place this Friday down at Wharf Chambers, where they'll be joined by some of the most exciting talents in the UK right now, Stevie Cox & Yant. LSM053 - Kaidun

Mix 54 comes from Jedda, the man behind The Big Green Party Machine. Get yourselves down to Wharf Chambers on the 19th March for the first edition of their eco-conscious party!

The idea behind the night is to use music to bring people together as a force to tackle the climate emergency. and for this mix Jedda brings together various soulful sounds including disco, funk, house and hip hop, in an aim to give you a taste of the kind of tunes that you can enjoy on the night.

All the proceeds made from the Big Green Party Machine's inaugural event are going to the Climate Coalition, a non-profit pressure group who lobby British parliament to introduce climate positive laws, targets and commitments. In an effort to be fully carbon-neutral, the Big Green is also offsetting the carbon equivalent of 5,000 air miles.

Mix 55 comes from a veteran of the scene, BIlly Black aka 8 Ball. Billy cut his teeth back in Leeds in 1982 and over the years he has accumulated a vast knowledge and selection of tunes, leading to an eclectic taste and skilful versatility evident in his sets. 

Billy has a wealth of experience behind the decks, playing across the UK as well as in European countries such as Greece & Holland, and even holding down a residency in Ibiza back in the early noughties. Since then he has had a hand in various parties across Leeds, such as Made in Leeds & Reboot. If you ever find yourself on a dancefloor with Billy at the helm, you can guarantee you're in for a good time.

You best get yourself limbered up before checking out mix 56 from Lyndon Lewis, a thunderous, high energy set that will perfectly soundtrack your daily exercise or your isolation raves. 

Lyndon originally hails from Manchester, where he also runs Trip the Light, but is now based in Berlin honing his productions at dBs Berlin. Alongside this he hosts a bi-weekly show on Etikett Radio titled UK & Beyond, which focuses on UK dance music as well shining a light on complimentary sounds from around the world.

Our next instalment comes from Manchester-based Damon Jones aka Damien Bones. Damon is a vinyl enthusiast with an affinity for Techno which shines through in his mix, focusing on more functional sounds that keep things moving without putting too much foot on the gas. The majority of the records Damon has included are recent releases, with a few bargain bin finds added in for good measure.

Our latest & youngest ever contributor to the series is Jake Rollinson. The 15 year old Leeds local has been honing his mixing & production skills since the age of 11, and just from these 45 minutes we can see he's going to be one to watch over the coming years!
 
Jake has already played a variety of gigs, including Leeds Pride and Made in Leeds Festival, and no doubt the list will continue to grow rapidly alongside his talent behind the decks.

I know favouritism should be avoided but this next mix is one of the best we've had so far! Fast paced, high energy, gunfingers in full effect. It's impossible not to get pulled in throughout this infectious power hour provided by Abi Teixeira, aka code abi.  

Born in New Jersey, she now resides in NYC where she has an affiliation with Indigo Radio, as well as playing at a variety of venues throughout the city and performing out in Montreal.

Abi has been honing her production skills since 2014, but only took to the decks in 2019 where her sets are heavily influenced by her Caribbean ethnicity and her Jersey roots. You can check this out for yourself as well as her own wicked productions via the links below:

From the success of the mix series we have moved on to hosting events at the likes of Wire, Beaverworks & The Old Red Bus Station.
