For a rising Turbo artist, your second release is what really makes you part of the family, culminating in a “Blood In, Blood Out” ritual held in Tiga’s basement rumpus room. “LFOs and Creatures,” Cora Novoa's second EP for the Canadian imprint, explores the terrifyingly fertile intersection between synthesizers and the unholy fiends of the nighttime world (but thankfully not Count Dracula, a deeply unhappy man).

The title track sees the Spanish techno producer and researcher harnessing previously undiscovered presets and tempos to expand the very limits of peak the as we currently understand it. Meanwhile, non-title tracks “Digital Identities” and “Self Control” push the boundaries even further, evoking a machine-only industrial warehouse rave where the conveyor belts, lathes, and double-arm extruders can finally let it all out on the dance floor. The EP closes with lead single “Oracle,” a piece of hypnotic ambient pop that will make you question whether we live in a simulation a full eight years after even Bank of America weighed in on the subject.

Now comes the uncomfortable part. Ideally, music should be free and for the most part it functionally is. But for the purposes of this discussion, we are compelled to remind you that this EP is for sale. Please try to think of it as less of a transaction and more as a symbolic gesture of the profound respect and gratitude you feel when you think about listening to our music. We keep on telling you that that’s the price of love.

- This collaboration between longtime collaborators Gregor Tresher & Sven Väth marks debuts on Turbo for both artists. Rarity Score: 9.2. Real world equivalent: an honest man in Washington, DC.

- Gregor brought the groove, while Väth performs vocals on both tracks, which is rare AND special. Rarity Score: 9.7. Real world equivalent: NFT of “Tiga’s Comet”.

- Väth rarely releases music on labels other than his own Cocoon Recordings. Rarity Score: 9.4. Real world equivalent: a handsome man in Washington, DC.

As for the music, “Flashback” instantly transports you to the exact moment you experienced ego death at an illegal rave called either “Perception Transmission” or “Morph Car.” Meanwhile, “I See You” follows through on its titular threat to validate your emotions.

Turbo is a Montreal label, through & through. We were thrilled to welcome a true pillar of our local scene to the label during our Turbo 25 celebrations. Skesa dropped Str 645 as part of the compilation, which instantly became one of our favorite tracks last year. Str 645 is a dancefloor pearl that has been taking Montreal raves by storm for months.

Following sensational sets at the likes of Mutek and Expose Noir, Skesa continues to cut deep into his distinct blend of punchy breaks, soaring melodics, and heady sampling. He steps up to make his Radio Turbo debut, providing an hour+ of heady groove.
