I’m always drawn back to the streets where I’ve been,
The houses, the whispers, the ghosts in between.
A brownstone waits in the East Seventies’ rain,
Where memories linger and echo again.
It held my first room, with its attic decay,
Red velvet chairs where the sunlight would fray.
A color of tobacco stain ran through the wall,
And Rome hung in prints down the narrow hall.

There was one small window and a rusted grate,
A fire escape staring down at fate.
Yet my spirit rose when I felt that key,
Cold in my hand but it welcomed me.
It wasn’t much, yet it felt like mine,
The first place I’d cross that sacred line.
My books were there, my pencils too,
Dreams of a writer just coming through.

Oh, that room was dark but it carried my flame,
I whispered my stories and carved my name.
Every night I swore I’d be,
The one who’d write eternity.

Never thought I’d write of Holly’s grace,
Her laughter still haunts that lonely place.
Didn’t think I’d ever recall her eyes,
Till Joe Bell called through gray October skies.
He ran that bar around the bend,
A stubborn heart, an honest friend.
His voice came rough through the telephone line,
He said, “Get here fast, it’s time, it’s time.”

I took a cab through the thunder’s fall,
Past mirrored windows and iron walls.
Dreamed she’d be there, her shadow near,
But only silence filled my ear.
Joe Bell was there, the mirrors old,
The rain outside turned brass to gold.
He poured one glass, said, “She’s gone again,”
And the jukebox hummed a requiem.

He talked of Holly like she’d just gone out,
Said he still took messages, still kept count.
He spoke of her smile, her reckless run,
Of ice hockey games and a Weimaraner’s fun.
He’s got his fixations, they never fade,
Our Gal Sunday and songs Broadway made.
He swears he’s kin to Gilbert or Sullivan’s rhyme,
But the truth is he’s married to time.

That bar’s a shrine with its mirrors cracked,
Two reflections, one looking back.
Neon avoided the window’s glare,
Only the rain painted color there.
I sat and listened, the moment froze,
The ghost of Holly brushed my clothes.
She was there in the hum of the venting heat,
In the tapping rhythm of New York’s beat.

Oh Holly, girl of cigarette smoke,
Your laughter still drifts through the words I wrote.
You ran from men, from love, from blame,
But freedom’s just another name.
If I could see you one more night,
I’d tell you your wings still catch the light.
Though you vanished beyond the dawn’s divide,
Your song still rings down Lexington side.

Now years have gone, the city’s changed,
Brownstones cleaned, the ghosts rearranged.
Yet every time the seasons turn,
I feel that same old fire burn.
The key still cold, the dream still young,
The same old stories left unsung.
And somewhere high above the town,
Her spirit drifts and won’t come down.

So here’s to rooms with broken floors,
To lonely hearts and open doors.
To every soul who dares belong,
To every writer’s first-born song.
I’ll walk those blocks till memories fade,
Where shadows fall and dreams are made.
And when my name dissolves in stone,

They said there ain’t no files, no folders to find,
But San Juan’s vaults are logged and signed.
From July arrest to August raid,
Five hundred million in assets weighed.
Drives and disks, the hidden kind,
Barcodes stamped, each crate aligned.
They searched the rooms, the walls, the halls,
Yet claimed they’d found no “files” at all.

Little Saint James under coastal sun,
Helipads shimmer where the guests would run.
Jewels and gold in numbered trays,
Artworks sealed in lacquered haze.
USBs tagged, cold wallets stored,
Encrypted keys the Feds secured.
The servers stacked, the safe-room keyed,
Every byte a witness they’ll never read.

No files, they say, no paper trail,
But the data speaks beneath the veil.
No folders found, no index shown,
Yet the hard drives hum in a world unknown.

Nine men signed the San Juan chain,
Each seal recorded, each crate by name.
Digital evidence, asset line,
Container counts in barcode time.
Quantico waits, D.C. holds tight,
The District Court stalled the oversight.
They seized the goods, they froze the pay,
But the truth stayed boxed in a hangar bay.

Civil suits drew the treasure maps,
Cash exchanged through legal gaps.
One-oh-five million the Islands’ claim,
The Feds took stock and marked each frame.
Sixty million the islands sold,
Yet no account of the bars of gold.
The townhouse cleared, the yachts displaced,
A kingdom of evidence still encased.

Private server in a marble room,
Humming low in the island’s gloom.
Email chains, encrypted threads,
Unopened logs where the traffic bled.
CCTV in mirrored halls,
Guests recorded through every wall.
The digital core, not the paper kind,
Holds every truth they’ve left behind.

No files, they say, no paper trail,
But the data speaks beneath the veil.
No folders found, no index shown,
Yet the hard drives hum in a world unknown.

Safe room vault where the guests would leave,
Rings and watches they’d not retrieve.
Cold wallets numbered, tags assigned,
Belongings sealed for “peace of mind.”
If those drives reached D.C.’s gate,
They hold the keys to every fate.
Evidence boxed, but justice stalled,
By hands too cautious, by voices called.

Now San Juan knows what Washington keeps,
The crates, the tags, the data that sleeps.
No files, no list, no paper word,
Yet every byte has been transferred.
The chain of custody tells the tale,
Barcodes locked beyond the veil.
They searched for folders, not the proof inside,
The evidence lives though the “files” have died.

So ask not where the folders lie,
They never lived, they never die.
The evidence hums in a coded refrain,
Truth encrypted, sealed in chain.
No files exist, but records stay,
In digital vaults where night meets day.

目を開けば 天地を包み 観と見を分かつ。

目を開けば 広く大きく 天地を包み、 「観」は鋼のごとく強く、 「見」は霞のごとく淡し。

道の眼は開けたり ゆるぎなき「観」をもて すべてを見透かせ。

遠きを近く 近きを遠く見るに、 道の眼は開け、 太刀の影すら見ずして知る。

敵の動き読みとれり ゆるぎなき「観」をもて すべてを見透かせ。

敵の刃 映らずとも、 心すでにその動きを読む。 これぞ兵法のまことの眼なり。

心の眼は研ぎ澄まされたり ゆるぎなき「観」をもて すべてを見透かせ。

目玉は動かず、 左右を見渡し、 風の音にも心を乱さず。

乱れなき眼を保て ゆるぎなき「観」をもて すべてを見透かせ。

時を急にしては 悟ることなし。 常にこの眼をもって世を観、 変わらぬ視を磨け、 ゆるぎなき「観」をもて、 すべてを見透かせ。

もし眼を失ひて、 敵の影、背に迫らば、 風も鳴らずに死は来たる。 ゆるぎなき「観」をもて すべてを見透かせ。

Translation Note: This composition is a poetic re-articulation of Musashi’s philosophy of “the unmoving eye” and “kan to ken” (観と見), rendered into modern classical Japanese for artistic and educational appreciation while preserving its Edo-period gravity and ethos.

è una composizione poetico-musicale interamente creata nel 2025. Pur essendo un’opera contemporanea, è concepita per evocare l’atmosfera lirica del XVI e XVII secolo, richiamando le immagini di luce, alba, viaggio interiore e devozione amorosa proprie della tradizione poetica italiana. Il testo adotta la struttura delle antiche canzoni e stanze, guidando il lettore in un percorso in cui lo sguardo dell’amata diventa aurora, bussola, conforto e porto sicuro.
La narrazione attraversa mari, fiumi, valli e cieli sereni — paesaggi simbolici della trasformazione dell’anima quando incontra una bellezza che consola e rischiara ogni ombra.
La composizione è volutamente ampia e “respirata”, riflettendo la musicalità distesa e ornamentale delle forme poetiche rinascimentali. Pur impiegando termini, cadenze e suggestioni ispirate al linguaggio del Rinascimento, l’opera riconosce esplicitamente la propria natura moderna e non pretende alcuna autenticità storica.
Il risultato è un omaggio allo spirito del passato, reinterpretato attraverso una sensibilità pienamente contemporanea.

SYNOPSIS (English)

“Canzone dell’Aurora che Ritorna – in stil rinascente” is a poetic–musical composition created entirely in 2025. Although modern in origin, it is intentionally crafted to evoke the lyrical atmosphere of the 16th and 17th centuries, drawing upon imagery of light, dawn, inner pilgrimage, and devoted affection. The text employs the traditional architecture of Italian canzoni and stanzas, guiding the listener through a journey in which the beloved’s gaze becomes dawn, compass, solace, and safe harbor.
The narrative moves through landscapes of sea, river, valley, and serene sky — symbolic terrains reflecting the soul’s transformation when touched by a beauty that comforts and dispels every shadow.
The piece is deliberately expansive, mirroring the extended musical phrasing and ornate character associated with Renaissance poetic forms. While it incorporates vocabulary and cadences inspired by historical Italian diction, the composition openly affirms its contemporary nature and does not claim any historical authenticity.
The result is a work that honors the spirit of the past while expressing emotions firmly rooted in the present.

सन उन्नीस सौ तिहत्तर की वो शाम थी
अब्बा ने कहा, "बेटा, ये क़ुम की पुरानी विरासत तेरे नाम थी"

उन्होंने रेशमी गलीचा खोलकर हथेलियों पर रखा
और बोला—"ये उड़ सकता है, बस जादुई कलमा सही होना सिखा"
मैंने आँखें फैलाकर पूछा—"अब्बा, कौन सा कलमा?"
उन्होंने मुस्काकर कहा—"जिसे सीखने में चाहिए उम्र भर की तलब"
तब मैं छोटा था, बातें समझता नहीं
पर अब्बा का वो प्यार मेरे दिल में उतरा यहीं
रातों को हम दोनों वो गलीचा फैलाते
जैसे आकाश के परिंदे उड़ने के राज़ बताते

वो कहते—"ज़िंदगी की हर रौशनी में उड़ान छिपी है
जिसके दिल में इल्म हो, उसी में जान छिपी है
गलीचा नहीं उड़ाता, इल्म की चाह उड़ाती है
तेरी मेहनत ही बनेगी जो तुझे आसमाँ दिखाती है"

एक रोज़ कहा—"गणित सीख ले बेटा, तब तेरा दिमाग़ खुलेगा
जादू का पहला राज़, संख्याओं के संग पूरा चलेगा"
मैंने अंकों में रातें गलायीं, जोड़–घटाना सीखा
पर गलीचा फिर भी ज़मीं से ज़रा न उठा
मैं भागता हुआ आया—"अब्बा, कुछ असर न हुआ!"
उन्होंने दाढ़ी सहलाई—"इल्म में सफ़र है, मंज़िल न हुआ"
मैंने हार न मानी, उनकी आँखों में अजीब सी आग थी
जिसमें मोहब्बत की लौ भी थी, और दुआओं की महकती बाग़ थी

वो कहते—"ज़िंदगी की हर रौशनी में उड़ान छिपी है
जिसके दिल में इल्म हो, उसी में जान छिपी है
गलीचा नहीं उड़ाता, इल्म की चाह उड़ाती है
तेरी मेहनत ही बनेगी जो तुझे आसमाँ दिखाती है"

कुछ बरस बाद बोले—"इतिहास सीख, वक़्त को पढ़
जहाँ से ये गलीचा आया, उस सरज़मीन की मिट्टी पकड़
क़दम रखेगा वहाँ, तो इसका राज़ खुल जाएगा
तेरी आँखों में सदियों का इश्क़ जग जाएगा"
मैंने इतिहास के पन्नों में शामें पिघलाईं
क़ाफ़िलों, बाज़ारों, फ़िरोज़ों की कहानी अपनाई
पर गलीचा फिर भी ख़ामोश रहा, जैसे वफ़ा की ख़ामोशी
उसमें थी मेरे अब्बा की कोई अनकही ख़ुशी

वो कहते—"ज़िंदगी की हर रौशनी में उड़ान छिपी है
जिसके दिल में इल्म हो, उसी में जान छिपी है
गलीचा नहीं उड़ाता, इल्म की चाह उड़ाती है
तेरी मेहनत ही बनेगी जो तुझे आसमाँ दिखाती है"

"अब फ़िज़िक्स पढ़, बेटा," एक दिन उन्होंने धीरे कहा
"जहाँ अक़्ल और रूह मिले, वहाँ होता है असली नशा"
मैंने दिमाग़ को नर्म किया, दिल को कई बार जगाया
हर तर्क, हर रूप में उड़ान का सच अपनाया
पर गलीचा अब भी चुप था—बस अब्बा की साँसें भारी थीं
उनकी आँखों में कई बरसों की थकन की सवारी थी

एक रात मैं बोला—"अब्बा, सब सीखा, सब किया
गणित, इतिहास, फ़िज़िक्स—हर सफ़र में खुद को पिया
पर गलीचा नहीं उड़ता, न कोई जादू खुला
शायद मैं ही काबिल न था, शायद इल्म ही अधूरा रहा"
उन्होंने मेरा हाथ थामा, दुनिया जैसे ठहर गई
कमरे की रौशनी मेरी पलकों में उतर गई
धीरे से बोले—"ग़लतफ़हमी है बेटा, सुन मेरी आख़िरी बात
मैंने तेरे लिए शिक्षा का चिराग़ जलाया दिन–रात"

"जादू गलीचे में नहीं था, न किसी कलमे में छिपा
हर इल्म की चाह में, तू खुद आसमाँ को छूता गया
जिस उड़ान को तू ढूंढता रहा इस रेशम के परों में
वो उड़ान तेरे दिल में थी, तेरे अपने सपनों में"

"गलीचा कभी उड़ता नहीं था, बेटा—न पहले, न अब
मैं बस चाहता था तू कोशिश करे, बन जाए तेरी तलब
हर सवाल, हर किताब, हर हौसला—तेरे लिए ही बोया
तुझे उड़ते देखना ही मेरा सबसे बड़ा संजोया"
मैं फूट–फूटकर रोया, अब्बा की हथेलियाँ मेरे सर पर थीं
उनकी साँसें चल रही थीं, पर कमज़ोर, सिहरती हुईं
आख़िरी लम्हे में बोले—"अब तू ही मेरी परवाज़ है
तेरी उड़ान में ही मेरी रूह का अंदाज़ है
ज्ञान की हवा को थामकर रख—ज़िंदगी का ये ही राज़ है"

"ज़िंदगी की हर रौशनी में उड़ान छिपी है
जिसके दिल में इल्म हो, उसी में जान छिपी है
गलीचा नहीं उड़ाता, इल्म की चाह उड़ाती है
तेरी मेहनत ही बनेगी जो तुझे आसमाँ दिखाती है"

अब वो गलीचा मेरी दीवार पर टँगा है, उड़ता नहीं
पर अब्बा की हर सीख में मेरा आसमान है, रुकता नहीं
मैं उड़ता हूँ गणित में, फ़िज़िक्स में, हर इल्म की गली में
अब्बा के हाथों की दुआ है—जो आज भी साथ चली है
मैं जब भी उसे छूता हूँ, मेरी आँखें भीग जाती हैं
क्योंकि उस रेशम में मेरे अब्बा की रूह मुस्कुराती है
उन्होंने कहा था—"ख़ुद को पहचान, ख़ुद बन उड़ान"
