I've been playing around with an envelope plugin, Kuvert so it seemed right to employ it for this assignment. I took 3 loops (16bar, 6 bar and 2 bar) and ran them through separate instances of kuvert set to play a volume envelope over 7 beat divisions. Each instance peaked and dipped at separate points and the irregular beat division caused the clips to peak and mute at different points of there loops to create a shifting pattern.
I always enjoy how new patterns emerge and interact to create an illusion of complexity from simple source material.

Disquiet Junto Project 0206: Three Switches
Compose a track with a trio of through-lines that repeatedly alternate relative prominence.

Note: It is generally helpful to read through all the steps before starting the first step.

Step 1: This week’s project involves a single piece of music with three separate simultaneous parts. Each of those three parts should run for the full length of the piece. The parts should individually be relatively consistent throughout.

Step 2: The one change that should occur is that every few beats, two of the three parts should be pushed to the background and the one remaining part should be prominent in the foreground. These relative positions should alternate every two seconds to four seconds or so for the full length of the piece.

Step 3: For the final few seconds, the three lines should be heard at equal (foreground, not background) volume for the first and only time in the piece.

Step 4: Upload your completed track from Step 3 to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 5: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

Deadline: This project was posted in the early afternoon, California time, on Thursday, December 10, 2015, with a deadline of 11:59pm wherever you are on Monday, December 14, 2015.

Length: The length is up to you, though between one and three minutes seems appropriate.

Upload: Please when posting your track on SoundCloud, only upload one track for this project, and be sure to include a description of your process in planning, composing, and recording it. Penguin Cafe's critically acclaimed second studio album, released 17th February 2014. 
The Red Book is the culmination of two years work that has seen Penguin Cafe investigate whole new areas of sound and vibrancy, making full use of the eclectic collection of musicians and characters, marking an ambitious extension from their debut ‘A Matter of Life’ (2011).

The catalyst for the new recording came about when Jeffes worked on a project with the International Space Orchestra and NASA Ames in 2012, out of which came the pieces Aurora and 1420, which have since been beamed into space as part of NASA’s Kepler project. These touchstones marked a satellitic beginning for a new album, a collection of songs that return to earth to undertake a rich, cross-continental, musical journey.

The story about me and Mongolia: I inherited from my father a curiosity about the world. So sometimes late at night, I cruise the net, to see if there are orchestras in "far flung" places around the world. Thus I friended the Mongolian Philharmonic. And shortly thereafter, Erdene-Oyun Burgedee of the Mongolian Phil friended me. Last fall, Erdene visits Denver, and we become good friends as I help her navigate Denver and its arts scene. Erdene (her nick name is Oko) shared a DVD and booklet on the Morin Khuur Ensemble, the traditional Mongolian orchestra that is part of the MPO. I was most intrigued and wrote a composition titled Postcards To Mongolia for the Morin Khuur Ensemble. Oko submitted it to the director of the MKE, and my composition is being premiered during the Naadam Festival in Ulaanbaatar on July 11, 2017. We are going to see if we can stream the performance live. Nikki and I are traveling to Ulaanbaatar and I will be working and hanging with Mongolian musicians, including some jazz and percussion stuff. This is an electronic version of my composition.
This is a bucket list trip for me. I've wanted to visit Mongolia for a long time, but that's a more involved story. Cheers!
