I've lowkey been wanting to cover this song ever since I started making music, but I could never think of a way to do it justice. The Chrono Trigger sample library allowed me some interesting arrangement opportunities and I'm happy that I finally got to make my own take on this classic song.

DuckTales - The Moon [SNES Chrono Trigger-style Remix]

I finished Sonic Adventure about a week or two ago now and one of the things I really liked about my time with it was, of course, the music. It's probably my favourite OST in the series, the amount of genres it houses is varied and every song in it is catchy and memorable as all get-out.

After listening to this song over and over again for a while, I got the urge to make a Genesis cover of it. Problem is that, because it's just a WAV on a Disc, I can't channel split it. Plus, every MIDI I could find had very obvious and annoying inaccuracies in them, so I didn't want to use them for that reason. So I just took a FLAC of the original song, put it into FL Studio and used some EQ settings to try and separate the instruments best I could. In doing so, I actually managed to brute-force the notes by ear way easier than I thought I would.

This means that this is my first successful attempt at covering a song that I couldn't channel split, and considering what I had to work with, I'm surprised it came out sounding as good and as accurate as it did.

I'm not a Sonic fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I played this game quite a lot when I was young, and I played it again recently out of curiosity. While it wasn't amazing, I appreciate it for what it is, it's fun enough, but not something I'd recommend to people unless they're nostalgic for the game, or interested in exploring a piece of gaming history.
