Even though 2020's pandemic cancelled Lua Preta's touring plans (which included a show in Philharmonie de Paris), the duo still managed to have a successful year. Firstly, global bass most influential figure Branko remixed their track 'Noemia' for his renowned compilation 'Enchufada Na Zona'. Secondly and more importantly, in September Lua Preta released their debut album 'Diaspora' - a seven tracks collection containing 'Baile Lotus' (played by Diplo in his BBC Radio 1 show), 'Vim Para Vencer' (collaboration with South African rapper Robin Thirdfloor), 'Drena' (featured in an official Spotify playlist by Adidas) and more of their characteristic catchy Afro sounds.
Now the Angolan/Polish duo is back with a first single in 2021 – a stunning new track called ‘Panakanema’ in which chopped up vocals are laid against carioca funk-inspired beat to obtain an extremely infectious song that will get you moving in no time.

Music Is The Answer (Remix)

Lua Preta are back with a new single 'Essa Preta Me Mata', named after a song by legendary Angolan singer Teta Lágrimas that Ms. Gia's parents used to listen to. After last year's 'Panakanema', the single presents another nod to the duo's Brazilian influences being a true baile funk bass feast. After a series of well received singles (reggaeton leaning ‘Foi’, baile funk-infused ‘Panakanema’ and ‘Essa Preta Me Mata’) and a bunch of bootlegs that quickly became DJs’ favorites, Angolan-Polish duo Lua Preta is back with a longer release – ‘A Noite Toda’. 
The EP kicks off with a title track which surprisingly pairs kuduro with Bouyon (a Caribbean genre from Dominica) to provide a fast-paced beat for the flawless vocal delivery by Ms. Gia who once again brings a strong feminist message with her lyrics. The ‘A Noite Toda’ song is then followed by ‘Pesquisar’ – a classic, dancefloor-ready Lua Preta track – and ‘Tempo’, a somewhat nostalgic tune perfectly closing the release.

After a successful 2017 which saw them release the debut EP, tour Poland with the climax reached at the renowned Unsound Festival and perform for the first time abroad in December, Polish-Angolan duo Lua Preta (Mentalcut + Supa Gia G) are back with a double single to kick off a new year! 

First up is 'Quero Mais' which brings a direct connection to Africa with the presence of another long-time Basy Tropikalne favourite - Morena Leraba from Lesotho. One of the continent's most distinctive voices famously appeared on Spoek Mathambo's album last year, also published a bunch of singles (including a collaboration with DJ Spoko) and now contributes his energetic verses to the track. The single marks also the first time we hear Supa Gia G in her full glory on rapping duties as she light-heartedly tells the story about her weekend preparations and plans. 

On the virtual flip-side there's gqom-inspired 'Somnilokwie' which already gained attention from the main man Branko himself who premiered it in his NTS Radio show. This instrumental beauty is another proof of Mentalcut's abilities to reinterpret African inspirations and current trends and take them to the next level with his modern electronic music additions.

Quero Mais feat. Morena Leraba

'Quero Mais' is Lua Preta's latest single that has also become their biggest hit up to date. Featuring the ever-fresh intercontinental production from Mentalcut that bridges Africa and Europe, Ms. Gia's bold rapping verses and the guest vocal appearance from the one and only Morena Leraba from Lesotho, the song quickly caught attention of both the press and DJs all around the world. 

The concept of a remix EP seemed irresistible and the result comes in a form of 'Quero Mais Remixes EP' which brings four reworks from top players in the game. The journey starts with Jowaa - the Accra-based duo consisting of Benjamin Lebrave, head of Akwaaba Music, and Gafacci, one of the most promising African producers of his generation - who have just followed their last year's killer singles with a releae of 'Asokpor 1.0 EP'. Next up is Ugandan dancer and producer Faizal Ddamba Mostrixx whose 2017's 'Tribal Match' was one of the most valuable albums in the continent's electronic music scene and definitely one of the most important debuts. 

Then European producers come into play. Italy's Lorenzo_BITW who famously collaborated with Mina on a perfect jam 'Tombura' few years ago, now polished 'Quero Mais' into a lovely laid back tune just as he prepares for the release of his debut album out in June on Friends on Friends label. The last track hides a real gem created by the exceptional mind of Rafael Aragon who transferred the original song to another universe by producing a moody and psychedelic composition that captivates the listener in every single second over its seven-and-a-half minutes duration.

Isilda Viegas – Ms. Gia’s mother hailing from Sao Tome e Principe. On the ‘Polaquinha Preta’ EP she’s featured on ‘Noemia’ where she sings in forro language – a creole language native to her homeland. During colonial times Portuguese banned people from using forro. Currently only around 70 000 people use it.

Rafael Aragon – French DJ, producer and musician who has become one of the key players on the European global bass scene throughout the past ten years. In his music he relates to all the continents but especially to South America and Africa where his ancestors come from.
