On this one: I started jamming with xaphoon over nude drums for some days, and neighbours suffered the magical birth of Kabutomushi, which got metamorphosed by some other organic layers to become an adult Rhinoceros Beetle !!

Back in December it all started with a simple Tayl0r & RiRi interplay on the legendary Midnight City instrumental. Some weeks later, during my gigs in Italy alongside Mashup-Germany, it grew into something more enigmatic & storytelling with different moods and subtle tempo changes.
Had really much fun with this project, also with the great video edit by Panos-T - don't skip that one. :)

Mashup-Germany & Kyco - Midnight Hearts 💙

Invited to work on it, I jammed on bass, then crafted it with drums & organ, finally adding some guitars & tuned doromb at about 1:00. So, here is my super-late contribution to the Praeditos project...

Praeditos (with KONOKUNOK)

My apologies to those who listened and commented on the previous post of this track, which vanished probably due my adulteration of the album cover.  Considered groundbreaking in 1964, Giant Steps went on to become a staple in jazz education courses.  It has a remarkable logical structure that achieves complete symmetry with the addition of one more chorus - "'Trane's missing chorus."

This tune by French trumpet ace Erik Truffaz is so hip that America's NPR (National Public Radio) has used snippets of it as an interlude in between breaks for other programs, interviews, etc.  It has the persistent bass line of a funk tune but with more complex rhythm and, more importantly, many unfamiliar chord changes.  Featuring Mel Lopes on fluegelhorn.

It's been a pleasant challenge to craft Mark's adlibed voice.

Tried finger drumming... moments of 3/4, others 4/4... then I remembered Franco Battiato singing about 7/8 measures in Brittish folk, and... why not?

Similar doubts about the chords, I finally built a sliding harmony using groups of notes found along the vocal line.

Many laboratory hours after I got something friendly; time to jam brainlessly a pair of guitars which made some organic company to the voice.

Great temptation of singing with Mark, but I finished the vocal edition by building a final choir instead ;)
