Passion; it's the spark that starts the engine, the hurricane that fans the flames, the total faith in someone, something, someplace? And this is its theme tune.

Courtesy of currently unstoppable Paradiso bossman Rees, 'Passion Theme' is the latest dispatch of smouldering sonics on Alan Dixon's burgeoning Love Attack label, which launched earlier this year with a stellar trip from the mighty Man Power. A star-lit synth smile brigade with themes of Italo, new beat and early Chicago house, it's the vibrant soundtrack we all so dearly need as we gear up for the return to our favourite dancefloor corners.

It's backed by more cosmically minded modern day disco themes of 'Infant Hercules'. A triumphant, slab of synth-soaked house music, the title is a homage to his hometown Middlesbrough and its rich industrial history. Remix-wise Disco Halal chief Moscoman & Komilev keep the creative furnace glowing with a spiralling Italo-inspired twist.

Finally Rees gifts us 'Sapere Aude'. A much tougher, moodier piece of electronic soul, the passion still buzzes through the track but there's a poignancy in the sweeping chords and arpeggio that build and build into an emotional volcano. Engines ready to spark, flames ready to fan, the passion on this one palpable. Sent with love.

"The Jolisa EP marks a significant shift in Luca dell’Orso’s sound. Although the electric hooks and rolling rhythms that characterise the dutchman’s signature style are still present, new avenues are explored. Alex Aguayo is Mahkina (SXDNS038), a moniker through which the Mexican rising star explores his 90s influences by delivering a sonority more devoted to Trance and early Rave combined with shards of Cosmic Disco. What a concoction, isn’t it? With previous appearances on vital labels such as Haunted Space, DistroKid, Maleante, and U’re Guay, he is now back on the Montevideo-based multi-genre imprint with a trippy and frenzied release: The EP consists of three highly mighty originals and three well-constructed remixes made with love by Gala, Manuel Sahagun, and Imanol, the label boss himself.

The track we chose to review/premiere is maybe the one that best expresses what Alex really intends to deliver under his new alias. “Autonomy” is above all hypnotic and feverish – exactly what is expected from the combination of his Trance & Rave influences. From his Cosmic Disco references, psychedelic and churning melodies supplied by the beautiful arpeggiated synth layers. The result: A peak-time cut devoted to putting big smiles on people’s faces!

Following on from Tu Sei Pazza, Daniel Monaco returns to the Bordello with the bitter taste of the TB303 on his tongue. Acid Maria smoulders with the intensity of a Belgian new beat banger circa 1989. Smoky words whisper over rusted rhythms before the fog and strobe take hold. Cold strings haunt with snaking coils of 303 squawk growing ever bolder in this intense track. The flip is divided into two very different remixes. First up is Curses who approaches the piece in his own unique way. The fanfare and frigid lines of the original are expanded. Strings come care of guitars as a bright synth wave reimaging unfolds, a reimaging with one of the most daring breaks you are likely to ever hear. Younger Than Me close. This interpretation adds a fevered tone to the original. BPMs rise and pitches are pushed while chilly notes soon balloon into a frenzy to bring a full floor energy.
